Piñaloka — Restaurant in San Juan

If you want to experience the ultimate 20 dollar let down, you’ve found the place. When I first came up, the first sign to me, was the McDonald’s bag and soda right front and center of a healthy smoothie and bowl place. Okay, overlooked that, ordered an açaí bowl and an açaí smoothie.

Listen, i still feel a bit sick writing this. Açaí bowl had what looked like frozen canned fruit, everything about the bowl just looked wrong and far from fresh I immediately thought of the McDonald’s bag for some reason. Fast forward to my smoothie, the worst I’ve ever had, when I took a few sips, I immediately saw the iron colored suds and tasted sweet and bitter, you know the kind you get from unwashed fruits or veggies? Yea, that was it. I immediately threw up in my throat. Threw out both items immediately. People make fun of Americans for their choice in Starbucks, and even McDonald’s. But they. At least maintain standards, which you can trust. Which is ironic as whoever was working the place just went to McDonald’s. Go figure. Lazy, unsanitary, down right disgusting. There are many great places to eat here, this is not one of them. We came at around 5-6. Still mad at myself for not listening to my intuition when I saw the fast food bag at a supposed healthy bowl and smoothie place. It...

The convenience of its location alone warranted an extra star. This stand is located a block from Condado Beach. I spent every bit of daylight/sunlight at this beach on my last day in town. I ended up getting hungry but didn’t want to venture too far off, so walked over to Piña Loka and got a medium Berry Açaí Bowl.

It was not the type of açaí bowl that I’m accustomed to: there’s comes with a scoop of frozen açaí sitting atop granola, with some fresh fruit. The fruit was indeed fresh, and my body thanked me for the light nourishment after hours of sitting in the sun. However, I do feel that $12 (after tax) is too expensive for what I got. But hey, it’s a great little hustle and I won’t knock...

Unfriendly staff. The girl was chatting on the phone while taking our order. Very disrespectful. The quality of pina colada was terrible. I threw out my drink after two sips. When I saw how she making it I already knew it will be a disaster. Unfortunately was to late to say no. People who say here in the comments it was the best pina colada , probably have never tried anything better than coke in their life. Mixing a cheap juice probably from Walmart with tones of ice and a tiny shot of cheap rum you call pina colada? I could only feel artificial taste and lots of sugar.
