(This is long but completely honest) Made reservations for 3pm at this place, arrived, & was approached before I could get out the car by what appeared to be the “host”. She told me since it was raining (really light drizzle) we couldn’t be seated because it’s an entirely outside restaurant then goes on to say BUT.. she don’t know & we could go talk to the server… Husband walks in, server has table for us under the covered bar. Server was a nice gentleman. He proceeded to tell us that we had 10 mins (it was 3:20 by the time we was confronted by young lady & found a park) to place our order because they close kitchen at 3:30 & don’t reopen until 4:00 (their menu switches) .. no where on website or reservation site does it say this nor have I every been to a restaurant that closes a kitchen to prepare for the afternoon menu when tbt the afternoon menu has LESS options so we was rushed to decide what we wanted in matter of 5 mins. Food came out in 14 mins later. A burger & boneless wings with fries. My boneless wings was so chewy, burger lacked any kind of seasoning (taste like plain beef), my husbands fries was fried so hard they wasn’t edible, however thankfully my fries was great! Never seen gentleman again. Female server came, took our plates, it was evident that I had only ate HALF OF ONE my bonelsss wings & he only ate his burger due to this being first meal of the day or we would've just sent it all back. I say all this to say, the restaurant is very hyped up for its beachfront views & not the quality of the food. If your going to close a kitchen for 30 mins or so, it needs to be posted or blocked off for reservations. My food was very much rushed or just all around the food lacks flavor in general (according to other tik tok reviews this is the case) The service could have been better. With as much food left on our plates going to the trash we could’ve been asked a simple question like any other restaurant “Was everything great?” Then I would’ve felt the need to give actionable feedback right then & there but at this point I felt you didn’t care & just robbed me of nearly $70 for a burger I would’ve not paid more than $10 & a basket of $5 fries. All in all , I DO NOT recommend this place. && as a frequent traveler to San Juan, I...
Read moreWe love Puerto Rico and travel here often—and The Tryst restaurant has always been one of our go-to spots to dine, especially being LGBT+ friendly. Unfortunately, our experience yesterday was by far the worst we’ve ever had. If this had been our first time dining here, we honestly would not have returned.
From the moment we were seated, we were passed between servers due to “section changes,” which already made things feel disorganized. The server who eventually took over our table ended up going on his lunch break mid-service without informing us or checking in before he left.
When I placed my order, I made it very clear that I do not eat pork—and asked for no pork in my omelette. It still came out full of pork. No one came to check on us after we got our food, so I had to flag someone down to fix the order. By the time my correct omelette arrived (which was unfortunately watery and runny, something I had also mentioned I dislike), my partner had already completely finished his meal. I ate it out of frustration more than enjoyment.
To make matters worse, when the server returned from his break, he checked on all his other tables—refilling drinks and closing checks—before even acknowledging our table again. At that point, I had to physically get up and ask the manager for our check just to leave.
I’ve always enjoyed dining at this location and want to continue supporting it, but this experience was disappointing and frustrating. All I expected was a basic level of service and attentiveness—especially as a...
Read moreIf I could give a place 0 stars I would. We made a reservation, were greeted nicely and the place was on the ocean so it seemed like it was going to go well. Then we waited 30 minutes for someone to take our drink order and that was after we flagged two people down. If they were busy I’d get it, but they were not. Then we had to order them again. Some drinks came out pretty quick at that point, others took 15 more minutes. Then we waited again for 10 minutes at which point we realized that no one was ever going to come back to the table so from that point on we just flagged down anyone that worked there. We finally ordered and the food came out 30 or so minutes later. At this point we we’re annoyed but if the food had been good then we wouldn’t have done the review but the food was not good, not at all. The fish sandwich in particular was half cooked on the inside with a think layer of charcoal on the outside. The bill was $165. I wouldn’t have been comfortable paying $65 for that meal let alone $165. If you are looking for a good meal, I highly suggest you go elsewhere unless you are looking for a place with perfectly nice waiters, but waiters who don’t actually wait tables, and where the food is just bad. I honestly wouldn’t even go back here if the food was going to be free. The drinks on the other hand were fine so at least...
