I've stayed at hostels before. This one is NOT on par with others. Two MAJOR issues:
I booked a "Women's Only" room through Hostelfish for this hostel - guess what, that doesn't exist here! In my 3 days there, there were at least 3 men in the room. Turns out it is "Female Priority" on the website, no guarantee of that kind of privacy.
The door to the hostel room was BROKEN. Broken broken broken. It was easy for me to enter the lobby without identifying myself, and go up to the hostel rooms and enter with no one checking to see if I was a guest.
For any survivors of assault out there, believe me this place is absolutely NOT for you. You'll never feel safe.
Besides that, the amentities were sub-par. No microwave for hostel guests, it was advertised but this was false. No complimentary toiletries. The towel you are given is thin and horrible. The lights in the bunk beds are blinding and uncovered, multiple people were using clothes and things to mellow the glare. Breakfast was laughable, it makes continental breakfast look like a fancy buffet. They don't serve Puerto Rican coffee here. Whaaaat - this is Puerto Rico and the receptionist had no idea what I was talking about when I asked about the local cafe.
The pool is nice at night, but not during the day when you can see how blah it is without the fancy lights.
There are a lot of common areas available for use, so it was nice to be able to walk around and find different places to hang out.
The cleaning staff was very nice, though they did not service the rooms every day.
I do not recommend staying here. I talked to the hotel-side guests who had individual rooms, and they said it was nice. But the hostel part of this facility is like an afterthought nobody wanted to...
Read moreThis hostel is horrible. First, it's inside a hotel, so it's not independent, and it's also badly taken care of and dirty and not cleaned as often as it needs to be. The capsule beds are not private, and the top ones are completely open, so if you sit up, you can see into the next bed. It's pointless and terribly and cheaply constructed. The breakfast is insulting: toast with some jam or butter and coffee. The staff are disgustingly rude, especially the red-headed, long-haired staff member. I don't remember his name because he was so forgettable, besides him being very rude and aggressive when you ask him a basic question. People like him should not be running this hostel and be the face of the reception. Additionally, this hostel's management are corrupt scoundrels and thieves. They stole my money for a night. I didn't even stay there since there was an error from Agoda, and I was charged for a room I didn't even know I had reserved. I never got a confirmation for the charge, nor did I give authorization for this charge. Bposhtels refused to rectify the situation after I emailed multiple times and tried to contact them via telephone as well many times. As they are not on the property and work remotely, they are not helpful and do not care about problems that ensue with your reservation once they have your money; they just steal your hard-earned cash and ignore all communication with you. I wish I never stayed here they RUINED my vacation and a despicable and atrocious...
Read moreThis place is a mixed bag. There are some comforts, and some issues.
The pros: Open 24 hrs, reception is super friendly, comfortable beds with two pillows, privacy curtains in bunk, charging port in bunk, AC in room, plenty of open space and storage space, small breakfast provided, super fast WiFi, great location that’s close to everything, and sound insulated fairly well.
The cons: Jacuzzi tub is duct taped to stay on shower mode, bidet in bathroom doesn’t work, no fans or sound damping in bathroom, shower is open to the room and doesn’t have privacy, the pool table isn’t free and it’s ripped on the surface, there are couches that face a tv mount sans tv, the stove doesn’t work for the hostel and a microwave three floors down is your only choice, no utensils or plates here, not even a cup, only provide you with one towel for your stay and have to ask to get a new one, I didn’t use parking and glad because it is only space for 3 cars and costs too much, the pool is tiny and barely fits 3 people, oh and common spaces are not air conditioned, and bunks have cheap corrugated paper like dividers— mine was broken on the headboard upon arrival.
So overall, it has its issues with lots of good sprinkled in. It’s not like most hostels I’ve been at, in that there isn’t much community or ways to engage. Long term stays would be difficult to pull off without a way to cook since this area is super expensive. Stay for a night or two, but no more if you are used to communal...
