My overall grade for Santorini's Greek Grill is: C-
I will need to get into some specifics here because the overall grade may be a bit misleading.
The Google reviews are quite positive and I must say, the facilities are clean and modern and straightforward.
It's as if you are looking at a "traditional" menu, but with a modern twist. There are inventive items on the menu or some unique twists they put on some traditional things such as gyros and have a good selection of "bowls".
For me, I went with the most fundamental sandwich that I could think of: the gyro. The meat was pretty traditional as well as the toppings, but their "bread" portion of the sandwich is not the puffy normal bread, but rather a thinner more "shawarma" type of bread - which is fine, just a slight twist on the traditional. The sandwich was very good and the toppings and sauce they used were very good. They do tie a piece of string in order to keep it together - which was a little foreign to me. No worries.
My wife asked for a salad, but they didn't have salads in the "traditional Greek salad" mindset. So, she ordered a bowl but didn't order any protein on the dish.
We ordered some Greek Loaded Fries which turned out to be an over-sauced very, very large order of fries. Between the two of us, we could only eat about 1/3 of the order.
We both ordered fountain drinks.
Here is my issue with the place. I would really prefer a more traditional shop with traditional bread and a place that offers traditional Greek salads, etc.
But here is what I just cannot figure out. 1 sandwich, 1 salad, 1 order of fries, 2 drinks all came out to $47.00
When does one go for a gyro and a salad and two drinks and pay $47.00?
I really wished we had asked for the receipt because I just can't logically do the math that gets to these numbers. I'm used to spending $20ish for these items. I must say, that the next time I'm in the mood for a gyro, I will try...
Read moreCelebrated a birthday with a group of friends last night. All of Sean’s team at the Sandy location were friendly and patient with our large group; some of whom had never been to Santorini’s. The food was fresh, hot, and the portions were generous. We enjoyed the fried zucchini, and fries with lemon pepper spice. YUM! The Original bowls were a hit with our first timers. Plenty of tastes and textures to enjoy. The lemon rice was fluffy with just the right amount of lemon. Tzatziki sauce was flavorful. Fry sauce had a little kick! Kids’ meal quesadilla was large and so tasty. The Original Greek Salad was also full of deliciousness and crunch. Ended our night of dinner and laughter with an order of Dubai Loukoumades for the group to share for a birthday. Thank you, Sean! They were hot, crisp, and chewy with just the right touch of pistachio cream and phyllo. We will be back and START with these! The Butter Cake and ice cream had just the right amount of sweet and richness without overdoing it. Thank you Santorini Grill in Sandy. We may never make it to Greece, but we WILL make it back to your shop for another birthday...
Read moreReally enjoyed my meal here! I ordered the chicken gyro. I loved that I could add whatever I wanted. I wish I would have noticed the Santorini style before I ordered, their fries are DELICIOUS. My wife ordered the bowl and wasn’t impressed. She felt like everything was too salty. I’m not sure if the pita bread toned mine down or what, but she said she would definitely order a gyro next time. We also ordered the street cart fries which were good, but I’d try a different loaded fries next time. Their regular style fries are much better than the waffle fries in my opinion. We got chicken nuggets for our kids. They tasted identical to the golden arch fast food nuggets. I do wish you could order fries as the base of your meal and create your own loaded fries like you can with your gyro or bowl. Those would be amazing fries! Prices are high for something quick, but portions are large and the quality of food is there. Everything was made fresh so the wait can be a bit long, but they had plenty of employees, it’s just made to order. Will definitely...
