My husband and I were looking for a new place in Savannah and Jim' N Nicks BBQ was recommended by a friend. Because it was a newly built restaurant, we were not aware that it even existed. We arrived on a Wednesday evening around 6pm to a half-full, not very busy establishment. We were immediately summoned to the Place Order counter as we were unfamiliar with the restaurant's process. This is a dine-in as well as a take-out restaurant. Because we had no knowledge of their menu, we asked for two menus at the Place Order counter, and we moved to a bench near the Take-Out Order area. After deciding on our food, we got back in a line that was quickly forming. Husband asked for the BABY BACK RIBS (half rack $18.49) but was advised they were OUT after the Order Taker checked with the kitchen. Instead, he ordered 2 lbs. of the CLASSIC SPARE RIBS ($23.99) with Mac & Cheese and Baked Beans. I ordered the CLASSIC PULLED PORK ($14.99) with Baked Beans and Coleslaw. We were given large plastic glasses for our drinks which we served ourselves at the drink station. Delicious Cheese Biscuits (4) were at the table within minutes, however I had to approach the counter to ask for napkins. Our food arrived within a reasonable time. Presentation was good on both rectangular metal trays with parchment paper. Side dishes or Trimmings as they are called here were served in individual melamine dishes. Husband's ribs were enough for two people, but he found a bit more fat on the bones as well as tough chewing them off the rib. It was not "fall off the bone" tender we were anticipating. Both plates were served with a small dish of BBQ sauce which was very good. I was disappointed in my serving size of the PULLED PORK. It was about the size of a scoop of ice cream. I found it a bit fatty and without much flavor. While our overall dining experience was GOOD, it was not EXCEPTIONAL as we were hoping based on our friend's recommendation. Total tab came to just under $50 with no alcohol (full bar onsite) or additional purchases. We felt this was a bit much for our dinner. Overall score...
Read moreOk so I went to Jim and nicks the next day after their opening day and when I was in their establishment not even five minutes later I saw a few flys. (idk why we didn’t just leave ,we wanted to give it the benefit of doubt )After my aunt ordered our food we went to sit down that’s when the flys got worse they just kept flying around on the table for minutes ,it was even a fly on the Jim and nicks bbq sauce ! We had to ask for another one . We also felt that the customer service wasn’t good to us at first we sat down for a total of like 8 minutes before we received service. Then what shocked us was that a couple got their bread one of their orders before us .We literally had to wave a waitress down .We also didn’t like that we made eye contact with this one girl with dreads multiple times and she still silent come to our table .It was very rude in my opinion . We practically had to ask to be served . Like you see us acknowledging us ! But I can say tho after we talked to one lady more help came .We also didn’t like that when my aunt paid she asked the cashier to kindly give her change for a 10 (2-5dollar bills ) so she can get a tip ,the lady only gave her 5 dollars back .So yes you guys register is going to be over .We also don’t like the shared tip policy between all of the waiters .We got informed that all of the waiters have to touch the table all of them didn’t do that so we thought that was very weird .All of the people’s customer service is not the same .Then people depend on tips so why share it ? We recommend that the restaurant close the bar windows so that’s the flys don’t come in ,it was no one at the bar so why keep it open for flys to come in ??? We think that the bar should be opened at night .Overall the experience wasn’t great highly disappointed we really wanted to love the Jim and nicks at this new location cause we always went to the one in Bluffton and their experience is great .I hope this new restaurant corrects their mistakes and becomes...
Read moreEntering Jim N' Nicks you can just feel the newness in the air. It's clean and the staff are all consistently helping with the flow of things. The amount of people that ask the same questions though is a bit overwhelming when you're in conversation with someone else. Someone named Daniel asked us so many questions that eventually he started saying, "you guys finding everything okay?" It was funny but in a not so funny way after the 5th time.
There are many positions up front and the woman even though she was nice she didn't know much about the menu. I asked her what was in their house salad she said, "It's only cheese, tomatoes, bacon and croutons." My salad also had cucumber and some sort of nut concoction that almost blended in with the bacon. If I was allergic to nuts they would've had a HUGE problem on their hands.
The food is consistently good though but I'm definitely not a fan of their turkey, chili or sausage and I haven't ate the brisket separately yet.
The ribs and smoked chicken are my favorite meats here but the burger, nachos (minus the crema) and smoked wings are great too. The greens, Mac and baked beans surprised me because most BBQ joints can't do sides right. Oh, and this may seem small but The lettuce for the salad was fresh and that was a major plus for me. I just tried the BBQ corn and baked potatoes and those are added to the list of likes. The corn has a major kick though so be prepared and the baked potato was perfectly cooked even though it’s huge!
The biggest downside is waiting in line to order. It's confusing on rather or not a tip should be left but clearly they're in a shift...
