My husband and I drove out of our way to visit this authentic bagel joint. I'd shown him a picture of a cream cheese and lox bagel the night before, and as a lox lover, his craving was tremendous enough that we were willing to drive forty minutes out of Savannah to give it a try. When they told us they were out of lox, we were crushed. The guys at the counter were kind enough to direct him to a lox cream cheese that had small pieces of lox speckled throughout, but of course it wasn't the same thing. So word to the wise - come early and/or call ahead if that's what you're gunning for.
My order was also a little disappointing, but that was mostly my own fault. I asked for a somewhat unconventional breakfast sandwich order. Since I don't eat meat, I asked for a fried egg in place of the cold cuts, and while my order raised a slight brow, they were able to do it for me. I asked for Cuban bread, which was my first mistake because they're clearly known here for their bagels. My second mistake was not explicitly asking for it to be toasted, which made for a super bready sandwich. Later, I overhead one of the workers wondering whether an Uber order should be toasted or not, and I heard her coworker directing her not to, since it was always best to "follow the orders exactly as it was stated." So it seems like these guys are great at follow through, so long as you're clear and direct about what you want.
There was plenty of seating space, and tables turned over fairly quickly even during a busy morning rush. A helpful table towards the front also has all the cups, water, napkins, and coffee refills you might need, which certainly makes the dine-in...
Read moreMidtown Deli is not easy to find. It is located in a strip mall with a World Market and an HH Greg across from Oglethorpe Mall in Savannah. However, I read the good reviews online and it sounded like the perfect non-chain eatery to get a good meal while we were out shopping in Savannah...so we went searching. Took a while to find the place, but it was worth it! When we got there just before 12, people were already lining up to order bagels and sandwiches - a good sign! Military men kept shuffling in as well, which we realized later is due to the discount that is offered to them each day - a nice touch. I ordered an everything bagel with plain cream cheese and a side of their vegetable soup. The bagel was quite good and though they went a little heavy on the cream cheese, all in all I'd say it was a great bagel. The SOUP...OH MY GOODNESS. Perhaps the most full-of-veggies, authentic, tasty vegetable soup I've ever had. We laughed because I kept discovering new veggies with each spoonful! Corn, green beans, lima beans, brussel sprouts, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes...it was just awesome. And they gave a side of 4 home-made croutons/toasts that I couldn't even finish because I was so full of everything else I ate. My family members each ordered sandwiches which they raved about -- they were huge and stacked with freshly sliced meats and cheeses on good bread. We finished the meal off with big, tasty cookies that came with our combos. The restaurant was hopping by the time we left, definitely a local favorite and a great find. Absolutely recommended for anyone who likes bagels and an authentic NY...
Read moreUpdate to my review: Yesterday, I bought a bagel to go, and when I got home, I was truly disappointed by what I saw. The bagel was literally missing half of the top part. I never imagined something like this could even happen. And as you can see, it was also cut in a very strange way. I honestly can’t understand how someone could have packed this and handed it to a customer. I’m at a loss for words — completely disappointed. I truly hope the owner sees my comment and does everything possible to make sure this never happens again!
Amazing First Experience with American Bagels!
This was my first time trying American bagels, and I must say—what an incredible experience! I have no idea what authentic New York bagels taste like or how they should look, but the ones here are absolutely amazing.
I have to admit, I didn’t fully understand the menu. So, I just showed a photo from the reviews and asked for the exact same thing. I chose a poppy seed bagel with cream cheese, which I believe had green onions in it, along with egg and bacon.
Let me tell you—this combination is pure perfection! It’s definitely not the healthiest choice (and I usually try to eat clean), but today, I truly indulged and enjoyed every bite.
On top of that, the service was fantastic! The staff member immediately knew what I wanted just from the photo, which made my experience even better. I left absolutely happy and satisfied.
Thank you—I’ll...
