This restaurant boasts of nouveau chic and upscale vibes by name, location, and optics, but does not deliver when it comes to quality of food and service. We ordered a fried green tomato appetizer, which was by far the highlight of our meal. The cheese and tomato jelly were the right sweet and tangy combo to offset the greasy, fried tomatoes, and the dish offered a variation of textures. Sadly, it was all downhill from there. The fairly pricey drinks were syrupy, watery, and felt like something that should be served out of a solo cup at a frat party. I ordered a she-crab soup, which arrived lukewarm, and was cooled off to a cold, sloppy mess by the time the server finally brought the bread I asked for- half way through my partners main course. The bread also was a huge let-down, especially for a place with several flatbread options on the menu,- one would think some extra dough or slices could be spared: On the contrary, what took the server at least 20 min into my soup to serve, was a couple of stiff, dried-up crusty pieces of what resembled discarded ends of forlorn flat breads that never made it to the table that night; so dry, the half hearted attempts to reheat them only made them shrivel up into crumbs on the plate. The Savannah special chicken dish was desperately underwhelming; and reminiscent of what one might encounter getting slapped on one’s tray in a high school cafeteria. Although generously sized, the mediocre dish was only edible due to the fairly tasty roasted veggies on the plate. The sauce described on the menu to go with the lukewarm mashed potatoes, was merely a thimble of butter, which certainly did not elevate the fried chicken to be anything special or specific to Savannah, as the name indicated. On the contrary it was presented and perceived as an entirely mundane run-of-the-mill chicken platter, which one could easily obtain elsewhere across the countries fast food restaurants. Understanding that service is slower in the south, we still noticed a particularly slow service, as well as the staff managed to inaccurately ring up the bill. Having to wait another ten minutes for the server to re-issue the bill to correct them overcharging us, certainly didn’t make us leave with a good impression. We paid $100 before tips for an appetizer, a soup and a chicken platter. We had one drink each. For that price, we are accustomed to a whole different league of food. Very...
Read moreAwful service. Overstaffed, yet slow and seemingly incompetent. We stopped by during a tour bus stop and decided on an order to go. Before I ordered, I was assured they could quickly prepare the ham and cheese Panini I was eyeing. It was 11:40 AM, so the restaurant was virtually empty — it was Well before lunch. Saw five staff members behind the counter and heard others in the back. After I paid for my order, I overheard 2 talking that they had messed up the order and needed to start again. Ok.... it happens.
10 minutes later, a woman comes out from the back with a long roll in her hand and it becomes apparent to me that they are only NOW about to now start cutting the roll to BEGIN to prepare the panini. I was asked to take a seat and wait, at which point I realized it was going to take another 10 minutes. I had to abandon it all after having paid $11 for the sandwich, 15 minutes earlier. As I left I asked what took so long to get it started, and all I got was blank stares from the 4 or 5 people behind the counter. There were no other customers needing to be served. I was the only one there, yet they couldn’t finish my order. I said “enjoy the sandwich when youre done” and ran to catch my group.
The food in the buffet looked inviting enough, and I can’t comment on the quality because I never did get the yummy sounding panini.
While I waited, I saw the chef come out, look at the bacon on the buffet line and ask the staff “what happened here?!” — he was clearly dismayed, asked them to clean it up and keep things tidy. He walked across the lobby muttering and shaking his head. I gathered he felt frustrated with the staff.
To their credit, they did offer to call a manager and credit back the charge of $13 which included my husband’s coffee, which he did receive. I didn’t have time and it will be interesting to see if they did.
In the plus side, it’s a very attractive looking place, well situated in the Lobby of the...
Read moreI travel for a living. Half of my month is spent in hotels, many of which are Hyatt, and I always look forward to the dining experience. Hyatt always provides exceptional service and food quality.
This restaurant is apparently the exception to that rule. I’ve encountered more attentive wait staff at Golden Corral. We got the buffet. As we got back to our table with our food in hand, it had been given away to the next couple. Not sure how that even happens considering it was the same hostess that seated us that gave it to the very next couple. Just so weird. But we laughed it off and waited for a different table (holding our plates in hand mind you).
After we sat down, we weren’t asked what we’d like to drink, so we just started eating. The food was mostly room temperature, but reasonably tasty. Finally got drinks after half finished eating. Never once were we asked if we’d like a refill. Drinks sat empty for 15 minutes before we left. The couple next to us waited about the same period for their first round of drinks as well.
Waitress brought the check and just left it at the table without any inquiry if we’d like anything else (for instance a refill that had gone unnoticed for the entire meal maybe?).
The waitress seemed just have a general attitude. Maybe not intentional, but she definitely comes off as talking “at” people. Just kind of off-putting. I could hear it from other tables too.
On the way out we noticed a coffee shop stand at the to-go counter (which was weird, because my wife had asked for flavored coffee creamer with her breakfast and was told they had none. Guess the waitress thought asking the barista to make a lattè for her was just way too much trouble).
All in all, pretty substandard experience that is absolutely not representative of a nearly $500/night Hyatt Regency. Could have walked to McDonald’s and gotten...
