ZERO STARS I visited Rocks on the Roof on March 9, 2025, where we experienced unprofessional service, excessive scrutiny, and an unnecessary invasion of privacy.
When we arrived, we experienced a significant delay before even being acknowledged by staff. It took an extended period before a waitress finally came to our table. Once she did, we placed a large order, including nearly half of the appetizer menu and drinks. At that point, we were routinely asked for our IDs, which we expected and had no issue providing.
However, instead of conducting a standard ID check, staff informed us that they were taking our IDs away from the table for further review due to increased regulations ahead of St. Patrick's Day. What should have been a quick and straightforward process turned into an excessive and invasive ordeal. Our IDs were passed around between multiple staff members for an extended period, as if they had never encountered a legitimate form of identification before. This felt like an unnecessary invasion of privacy and a potential safety risk, as we had no control over who was reviewing our personal identification for far longer than necessary
Despite their heightened scrutiny, staff demonstrated a clear lack of competence in recognizing legitimate IDs. If there had been any real uncertainty, the proper course of action would have been to request secondary proof of identification, which they never did. Instead of trying to confirm that our IDs were authentic, their entire focus was on trying to prove that we were underage, despite everyone in our group being in their mid-to-late twenties. Rather than following standard verification procedures, they began interrogating us with personal questions that had nothing to do with identity confirmation and were clearly designed to catch us in a lie. They asked where we went to college, what year we graduated, and specifics about the area we were from. This was not an attempt to verify our IDs--it was an unprofessional interrogation based on the assumption that we were lying.
We understand and respect the need for heightened ID regulations, but regulations are only as effective as the staff enforcing them. Given the clear lack of training and competence displayed by your employees, these "increased regulations" should be immediately reviewed. If your establishment is unable to properly train staff to recognize valid IDs, then you should either hire more qualified employees or invest in an ID scanner to ensure an efficient and respectful verification process.
Instead of enjoying our last night in Savannah, we were subjected to a 40-minute ordeal that left us feeling disrespected, unwelcome, and embarrassed on what was meant to be a celebratory evening for my bachelorette trip.
Required improvements:
A full review of your ID verification policies and "increased regulations" to ensure they are enforceable and reasonable. Proper staff training on ID verification procedures that focus on confirming authenticity rather than assuming dishonesty and interrogating customers. Investment in an ID scanner if staff are unable to verify legitimate IDs efficiently and...
Read moreOn 8/18/23 I visited this establishment Rocks on the Roof with 3 friends and we received horrendous service. We sat at a table for four across from the bar. We observed several waitresses pass by us and serve other customers. After several minutes waiting to be served I went to the bar to order drinks. However, after several minutes waiting to be acknowledged by a bartender I called out to a few of them but I was ignored. Finally I approached a waitress who was picking up drinks for customers and asked if she could help us get service. I could see she was very busy but she graciously and professionally agreed to serve our table. Charlotte took our drink orders and went to the bar. She returned shortly with our drinks but to our dismay she informed us she could not continue to serve us because, she stated, she was chastised by someone at the bar for doing so. We thanked her immensely, gave her a generous tip, and she left. We had plans to eat but since the service was deplorable we decided to take our business elsewhere. I went to the bar to close out and pay my bill which totaled $77. After some confusion about what we ordered I paid and we left. Today while checking my credit card charges I discovered an extra $14 dollar charge bringing the total for the bill at Rocks on the Roof to $91. I never authorized this charge and will not pay it. I consider this extra charge to be fraudulent because it appears nowhere on the billing receipt I signed. I have submitted a partial dispute with my credit card company. Although $14 it is a small amount, the poor service we received requires my attention to correct this error. Additionally, I believe that the manner in which we were thoroughly ignored and passed over for service was due to the complexion of our skin as we are all African Americans. I am requesting that not only Bohemian Hotel and Rocks on the Roof immediately reverse and refund the erroneous $14 charge, but to also address customer service sensitivity training to regarding the poor level of service we received. In conclusion, we dined at your downstairs restaurant, spending over $200 and the service there was excellent! Kudos to your staff on that level of your hotel including Mukund...
Read moreFor this to be where we celebrated our 5 year anniversary I must say it was very disappointing. We had reservations at 7:00pm, when we arrived we stood waiting for about 5-7 minutes until someone came and told us that it was self seating. We sat down, the table was dirty and no one came to the table for about 10-15 minutes. There wasn’t a lot of people there at all, however they were very short staffed. I believe I seen 2 people behind the bar, and 2 servers on the floor. Finally a server came to the table and brought us some water and menus. The menu had a very small selection (all appetizers). No one else came for 37 minutes. We finally placed our drink orders and my husband ordered beer which came in a dirty cup, and I was brought the wrong drink altogether. 20 minutes later the manager came and took our order. We inquired why the menu was different from what we seen online, and was told that they are under renovation and this is the only food they are serving. I ordered the smash burger and my husband ordered steak frites. (Please see pictures). Our food came out 30-35 minutes later the fries were cold, and the smash burger was in no form a “smash burger” it looked more like a slider. My husband had the smallest piece of steak that I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure what cut that was but it was cut into 4 very small pieces. He said the taste of the steak was indescribable but not in a good way. Not to mention we never received any utensils and napkins until we asked. This is comparable to a sports bar with no tv’s. This was not how I planned to spend my Anniversary/Valentine’s Day. Also the valet service was $24.00 however when we left she just gave us our keys and pointed to the car. I must of gotten the meaning of valet service confused. I must add our meal was comp’d due to the service by the manager. So we got free fries beings that is all we were...
