TLDR: birthday ruined due to inattentive, ghost server, insane wait time, and mid food all for the low bill total of $202 for two people. Don't order the chef's tasting menu it's a waste of money. And management is all but nonexistent
It was lackluster and disappointing. I went for my birthday hoping for a dining experience and got a disaster. Me and my guest went with the Chef's Tasting Menu ($85 per person) under the guise of it being "the best of what they offer for the season" only to realize that they must of been pawning off the things no one else wanted to eat. There were five courses and only 2 of them were decent, the rest tasted like a child went into a play kitchen cosplaying Remy from Ratatouille. Mid food would be fine if we did not have to wait 2 HOURS AND 20 MINUTES for our "experience". The original offering included scallops, my guest is allergic to mollusks. We informed the server who stated we could substitute the halibut, however it was garnished with clam but they could have it made without them. Guest said that would be fine. Guess what came out with the halibut... clam. An entire meal in this $85 experience my guest couldn't eat. This course, like most of our food, was brought out by a random server and when our actual server finally appeared ahe asked of we wanted a box and then immediately went into the back of the house. Needless to say both my guest and myself were very upset. We contemplated just leaving but at that point there were only 2 courses left one of which was dessert which are almost always absent server hyped up. Surprise surprise dessert took forever and was trash also. We got a cheese and honey plate, and let's be honest it was rather insubstantial, and the brown butter cake. That cake was drier than wood ashes. The cake wasn't even warm by the time we got it but the gelato was already half melted. My guest just wanted to leave so we packed up our fancy lunchable of cheese and honey and paid our tab. But that did not sit right with me so I asked to speak to manager. Well apparently the manager had left... I have never been to a restaurant where the manager even got to leave before I did. Our server said they would try to catch them in the lot but then came back with a chef, who I had literally seen the server bantering with while they were basically avoiding us over this 2 HOUR fiasco. I conveyed to them that the experience sucked and while the server had started out strong their lack of communication and physical attentiveness was overshadowed what thoughtfulness they attempted to show. It was very apparent we were their last table and they did not care. I saw more of other table's servers than I did of my own, and other table's saw more of my server than I did. The chef really didn't have much to say, or the authority to even pretend to be able to do anything. Which was also quite disappointing, I would have preferred no one at that point. But at least they were nice I guess. Me and my guest tried calling the restaurant to speak to a manager on 8/7 but of course no one answered the phone. I really don't like giving poor reviews but this experience was awful....
Read moreI am late in my review of this restaurant but felt it necessary to post anyway. I am the manager at a local restaurant and we decided Repeal would be a great place for our employee New Year's Dinner. This was the very first visit to Repeal by myself and my entire crew. I was in communication with the event coordinator, Sloan. She was amazing! Broke down all the room rental packages(we started with a party of 27), pricing, recommendations of meals, etc. We had several changes to the number of people in our group and she helped us handle it patiently and efficiently. She made it a stress free endeavor and I am very appreciative. The room we rented was absolutely beautiful. The environment and decor were wonderful and I can't say enough about the gentleman taking care of our group, Brian. He was friendly, knowledgeable, well-spoken, and prompt. Took it upon himself, without being asked, to create custom mocktails for the people in our group that do not drink alcoholic beverages. This kind and unexpected gesture left a lasting impression on my team and myself. This is the type of service I wish everyone could have everytime they visit a restaurant. He helped make this such an awesome experience for us all. The food was amazing! We had many different things Charcuterie board, wings, brussel sprouts, steak, pot pie and the list goes on. There was not a single thing I would fail to recommend. Try all the things! All of our cocktails were delicious as well. I highly recommend Repeal for your next group event. You won't be disappointed. A huge thanks to Sloan and Brian for giving us such a wonderful evening!
*Update: We recently had our second employee New Year's party here. Trisha coordinated for us this time and I appreciate her patience with my many questions and changes. While the seating setup and lighting was not as conducive to socializing as it was last year, the food and service were wonderful. Paige and Hunt(I probably misspelled those, my apologies) were very kind, pleasant and efficient. Still recommend for groups. Two of my employees went here with their significant others for Valentine's Day and enjoyed themselves as well. Thanks to the entire team at Repeal.
Sorry for the...
Read moreFirst, I have to say this is the very first place I have ever reserved for dinner in Savannah on Open Table; I legit chose this restaurant over all others to have Father's Day dinner. Little did I know that l'd have a terrible experience. I arrived 15mins early with my party of 4; we were sat at a table early, which started the evening great. However, that's where it ended. Our server, (short haired lady) seemed to be in a rush and hurried us with drinks and ordering appetizers. (Side note, it's generally a $$$ (three dollar sign) restaurant for cost and you would think that they would cater to their customers a little). Since they don't have their beers on a menu, I got up to go to the bar to look at the chalk board they have to see what I wanted stood around for a few minutes, hoping that someone would take my order for a beer. Nope, I just went back to my table. Eventually the server came by and I ordered a beer for a friend, but was rushed and I didn't end up ordering a beer for myself. The beer showed up from another server/bartender, at that time I tried ordering myself a beer and was asked to check my ID again, which made zero sense since I just had another beer delivered to my table, after already ordering another beer. And this lady that delivered the beer also had an attitude when I tried ordering my beer and ultimately, I wasn’t allowed to order a 2nd beer. At that point I was upset about the attitude I received and asked to speak with the manager.
On comes Gus, supposedly the manager on duty, he came to the table with a look of ZERO concern. His body language visually indicated that he did not care about taking care of customers at this restaurant. So, this continued with the bad experience here at Repeal 33. After this experience, I located Gus and asked him to close me out so I can leave. But this dude already had the check in his hand/pocket! He said, "yeah I figured that would happen." Speaking about me wanting to close out.
Unfortunately, I would not be recommending this restaurant to anyone. I had a terrible experience with more than one employee there. The customer service is precisely why I chose...
