I stayed there on April 26-27. You should avoid staying hereâŚsee below. Arrived after 5 pm on a Sunday-2 nights. Front desk person was ambivalent and seemed more interested in talking with a local pool player who was encamped in the lobby than helping us. Arrived to a room that was dirty, had only 2 scrawny pillows, had a used towel hanging in the toilet room, only had two hand towels in the bathroom, no tv remote, no hair dryer and no coffee pot. Walked down and got a remote (it came with a little attitude, which was nice) and asked for towels and pillows which apparently had to be âfetchedâ from the basement. Towels and pillows came within the hour, and the hairdryer came the next day after 3 pm. Didnât push my luck with the coffee pot. No one around for breakfast, the bartender was there by himself in the evening and seemed pretty happy about that. The valet parking ($35 a night) actually worked well, nice guy working there.
Now about the place : 8 min walk to the river, on the JW Marriott side. The walk takes you through some closed storefronts and such, past a dumpster, the requisite homeless (in addition to the two that were directly outside the entry to the hotel) and down steep short steps-not the hotelsâ fault. The hotel is conveniently located next to the bus station, should you choose that as your mode of transportation. The good part about that is that buses run outside the hotel day and night, giving the place a real âdowntownâ feel, traffic-wise. One other thingâŚ. The design of the rooms are âinterestingâ. Open floor plan that includes the sink and shower Only separated from the bed by a 3/4 wall. There are Concrete floors both in the room and out in the hallway, again adding to the reverberating ambiance conducive to a relaxing stay (OK, maybe not!). This concrete also helps with the sound bounce from inside the toilet room, which is only separated from the rest of the IKEA-esk furniture arrangement by a very flimsy sliding door⌠what a great place for a little privacy just when you need it most. So in reviewâŚ. I give it 1 out of 5 wilted stars (only keeps from being a zero out of five because the valet parking people were efficient and pleasant). Unclean, poorly designed, inattentive staff, absolutely no one to keep up any kind of standards, dubious location and to add to that, they charged us twice-The acknowledged (at check in) prepaid Priceline cost ($325 for two nights) and an additional $348 from the Hotel PLUS $70 for parking and two mysterious $75 fees for something that no one at the hotel knows about. 6 calls the day after and no one picks up. The 7th is the charm and there was a âmessage left for the managerâ. If the messaging system works like it did for the hairdryer, coffee pot, towels and suchâŚ..we donât stand a chance. Book and stay...
Read moreUpon checking into our room at the Aloft Savannah Downtown Historic District, we immediately found a dirty sock and used wash rag left by previous guests. Expecting a prompt and effective solution, we reported the issue, but the hotelâs response fell short of our expectations.
Ideally, we wanted either a full cleaning and turnover of the room again, since it was clear it wasnât done properly the first time, or a whole new room entirely. Because whoâs to say the sheets and linens on the beds were even washed?
We called the desk from our room and waited on hold first before finally just hanging up to make our way downstairs in order to address it in person.
The hotel manager on duty, Jessie, informed us that they were sold out indicating we would be unable to switch rooms. Additionally, our request for another turnover was ultimately denied, because apparently the entire housekeeping staff was no longer on site to clean the room again and change the sheets. She offered to remove the items herself and gave us a voucher for a complimentary drink at the hotel bar as compensation (which was set to expire within next 24 hours). When we sought further remedies, such as complimentary valet parking (since no form of self-parking on site was available) we were told this wasnât possible because the valet service was operated by an external company and there was nothing they could do about it.
Most disheartening was being told that because we booked through Airbnb and were not members of the hotelâs loyalty program, we were ineligible for certain forms of compensation. This insinuation that our booking method or membership status should influence the basic hygiene standards of our room is unacceptable. Guest satisfaction and cleanliness should be universal priorities, regardless of how a room is booked or whether the guest is a member of your loyalty program.
We are very disappointed by the hotelâs failure to uphold basic standards of hospitality and cleanliness. This experience has highlighted a significant need for the hotel staff and management to reassess their service commitments and ensure that ALL guests receive the cleanliness and customer care they are entitled to.
0 stars for the room, obviously. 2 stars for service, because staff was polite despite being unable to rectify the situation. Also, Valet only had ONE person retrieving cars during Sunday morning checkout?!? The line was stretched to the lobby. 3 stars for location, because it was convenient enough for our...
Read moreWe are lifetime Marriott Titanium Elite members. We have stayed at hundreds of Marriotts throughout the US & Europe. This is the 3rd WORST Marriott Iâve ever stayed at. We checked into the hotel today for a 3 night stay. The hotel is very disappointing. If I had read the reviews before I would have NEVER booked this hotel. (If you are reading this before booking then donât !). The location of the hotel isnât great â the hotel is across from the bus station. We were being dropped off at the hotel & there was no parking available for checking in / unloading. I booked the room with breakfast included. The check in lady asked me if I want to have breakfast added âŚshe told me she couldnât see the reservation. I had to show my confirmation on my app. The breakfast options are VERY disappointing. (DO NOT waste your money adding the breakfast to your reservation. You will be sadly disappointed!). I Immediately regretted paying more for the room + breakfast (photo of options included) which I immediately knew we will NOT use ! Only one elevator is working so you wait 5 plus minutes or more for the elevator. (Reading reviews on this hotel I see the elevator is ALWAYS having issues!). The room is small & basic. Weirdly thereâs no door for the shower. Just a curtain that doesnât cover the entire opening. Never have I ever stayed at a hotel without a door for privacy for a shower. Limited plugs in the room for charging items. I can honestly say because of the location, condition of hotel / rooms & lack of basic things you expect in a room (privacy door for the shower) I would NOT recommend staying here. If you are a Marriott rewards member I would recommend The Courtyard or The AC Marriott on the river. If I had not already checked in & paid for my 3 nights we would check out tomorrow!! I Wish I could get my money back for the next 2 days because we would definitely be relocating ! Looking online now there are LOTS of other hotel options (even Marriott hotels) for the same price with much better reviews, better location & better rooms !! Do yourself a favor and stay...
