I have to start this review off by first stating that I am definitely not a dessert person, my orders are typically a "steak and potatoes", appetizers, etc. We were referred here by a good friend and were told that it was definitely a "must try" while we were in Savanah. With that being said, I must say that Better Than Sex did not disappoint! I genuinely believe this has to be one of the best dessert restaurants that I have ever had the pleasure of dining at and I truly feel like this is a "must try" for anyone who is visiting Savanah and loves good food and even better experiences. The ambiance was dark and seductive, beautifully and artistically set up with intention and thought behind all of the decor, music and everything in-between.
We ordered a couple of drinks to start off, Old 1-2 and Super Soaker, which were absolutely delicious. Our main order was a Missionary Crisp and 2 glasses of French Kiss, which I can say that I have never had anything come as close to heaven on earth as this dessert pairing. The entire experience from start to finish was exceptional and I personally think that the service from the staff is beyond compare. Our waitress Gigi was absolutely amazing and friendly, she provided some amazing dessert suggestions and wine pairings. The manager Fernando was so incredibly professional and had some amazing suggestions as well! Overall an extremely wonderful experience.
I was so delighted with the food and our interactions with the staff, that I was compelled to make a reservation for a second visit the next night. We ordered the Man Flowers with an amazing wine pairing, Lickin Love, which Gigi and Fernando recommended, it was absolutely divine! And of course, we ended up ordering another glass of French Kiss to finish off the night! Once we were finished, we had a chance to meet with the owners, which was an extremely delightful conversation and experience!
All in all, this is one of the best experiences I have ever had in all of my travels, between the amazing food and the even more impressive staff. If you're ever in Savanah, make an effort and put aside some time to visit this place, because you will not be...
Read more…Sigh. Quite let down by this experience. My partner and I went for the 1st time with another couple who’s been several times, which gave me some idea of what to expect.
Food/drink - Everyone ordered a different food and drink so we could try each other’s. We enjoyed the desserts. The drinks were just ok - I couldn’t taste the alcohol. The chocolate/caramel drips on the outside of the glasses were much skimpier than their pictures showed on the menu. The pumpkin cheesecake was very light and fluffy. The hard candy/bark piece in the ice cream was a delicious surprise.
Ultimately I felt very stupid for purchasing a slice of cake for the same price as a meal elsewhere. The food and drink are not good enough to be charging that much in Savannah. But? Could it be that the service and ambience and experience are part of the price? For that, I could justify the cost. Unfortunately that was a letdown as well. I was told to expect sexual innuendos and a fun experience from our server. This was not it. The place is low-lit and intimate, but our server was not that different from a server anywhere else. The decor was very tacky 2010’s boutique. I guess the iPads are to combat the low lighting, but iPad menu with grainy photos felt extremely tacky in this setting. We also wanted to order a particular item on the menu, but they said it wasn’t supposed to be on there? Why not let people know you’re out or change the menu??
TLDR: For the price, I expected higher quality food and drink. Better off getting a comparable dessert for cheaper at a...
Read moreThe name intrigued me, so I visited the website for Better than Sex, a dessert-and-drink café on the western end of Savannah’s main shopping street. The menu is entertaining as almost every item as well as the snappy repartee of servers are double entendres. We decided to share “The Fourgasm” – “a little tease” of four of their most popular desserts: a slice of “Between My Red Velvet Sheets Cheesecake” (red velvet cheesecake with a dark chocolate cookie crust topped with silky chocolate frosting), “Man Flowers” (chocolate cake made with Sam Smith organic chocolate stout beer, and dark chocolate frosting topped with chocolate stout ganache), “Caress My Carrot” (carrot cake with dried cranberries, pineapple, and walnuts, vanilla bean cream cheese frosting and a honey-dipped tip), and the disappointingly uncreatively named “All American Cheesecake.” Drinks can be rimmed in chocolate; my wife ordered the choco-coffee (as if we hadn’t already had an overdose of chocolate with the dessert sampler described above!) while I ordered “Peanut-tration,” Skrewball peanut butter whiskey served in a brandy snifter rimmed with white chocolate and chopped peanuts. Inside, the lighting is dim and candlelit tables are separated by walls or curtains. This was the first (and, probably, the last) time I would pay $80 for dessert but it certainly was a...
