I write local dining reviews on Facebook. But wanted to post the review to Google for anyone who is not in the local dining scene. Staycation continues! I started off heading to Downtown but could not find parking and the tourist restaurant had a long line out the door. Headed back to Savannah Southside in search of someone open for an early lunch. Found myself back at The Narra Tree the new Filipino restaurant after dropping in during their soft opening. I was surprised the Owner Maycee from Cebu who runs Front of House (Dining Room) remembered me and even the dish I recommended go on the menu. Her partner and co owner Bella from Ilo Ilo runs Back of House (Kitchen). As pretty much everyone in my personal life knows my family is Filipino from Manilla (Tagalog Province). I walked in and Alya my server from Laguna greeted me "Po" which is a gender neutral honorific like sir and ma'am. The menu has expanded significantly since soft opening and continues to expand. There are clearly marked items that are vegetarian and gluten free. I would ask if the vegetarian is also vegan. I started off with the Street Food Basket with mini skewers of fried Quail eggs, fish balls and kikiam made from pork and shrimp. The dipping sauce tasted like the famous Mang Tomas Sauce for Lechon. But it's a house made sauce with soy sauce and oyster sauce and no liver. Absolutely delicious! The Narra Special Lumpia has ground pork and a quarter cut of hard boiled egg plus cheese. (Deep fried Filipino eggroll in a thin crispy rice wrapper.) When they opened I was really unsure how they were going to Western Fusion their menu. Narra Wings with Salted Egg would be the answer! As I know what a salted egg is I'm at a sudden loss in describing it. Their wings also come in Calamansi (Calamondron) and Honeymansi. Calamansi is the national citrus accomplishment kinda like a cross between a lemon and sour orange. If you ever order Filipino food and get a lemon the chef lacked access to Calamansi. Side is sweet potato steak fries and celery. I asked where the Calamansi came from as I'm unaware if it being sold in a local market. The owners wisely planted one! I ordered Inihaw which most people know as Filipino BBQ on a bamboo skewer. Flashback to childhood backyard parties and Fil-Am Events. Total happiness in my tummy! I meant to share one skewer and ate both so ordered an extra plate to go. This comes with a housemade vinegar garlic dipping sauce. This came with sliced cucumber and tomatoes. Mocktail choice was the Mama Mia with guava, strawberry and grapefruit juices. At long last Halo-Halo is on the dessert menu and it was worth the wait. Normally I don't like Pandan as it's too light a flavor. You can taste the Pandan in this iced dessert drink with Pandan Jelly, Nata de Coco (think coconut gelatin but it's vegan made with agar agar), jackfruit, sweetened red bean, plantain, corn, ube jam (Filipino purple yam), ube ice cream and even a little bit of flan. I ordered all of that with sit down service for under $80 not including a well deserved tip. I'm excited about this menu! They are open for lunch and dinner except for Tuesdays. Mabuhay is a greeting and it translates to "Long live!" Here's wishing this local owned business...
Read moreFirst off, BLADE our waiter was awesome, let alone his mother for giving him a great name! Hah the food was everything I hoped for, I saw Filipino food on Facebook so I looked up anything near by, I have never found a restaurant with so great reviews all around. Me and my lady had to try it, we started with the lumpia, ill never have a Chinese egg roll again, delicious, the coconut shrimp was a safe guard but didn't disappoint, next we had the bbq pork and chicken, amazing and rich. The lechon was new to me and great with the fried rice (make sure you dip it in the sauce and take the bite with rice) In my opinion it tasted better together, and like pork rinds solo but I mean,, that's what it is. CHOP SUEY was delicious and was really a great addition for the rice and meats. The vinegar they make could literally be served with everything, it is AMAZING. Presentation was very nice on all courses.. lastly we had the halo halo, pronounced hahlo hahlo, deliciously different, ill let you figure it out! We got the the terimisu to go an will try tonight, overall 5/5 recommend to anyone. Also that red horse beer is 8% and you couldn't even tell, smooth very good. Idk hownto add pics..GO...
Read moreThis restaurant is officially in my top 5 favorite restaurants in Savannah. Narra Tree is an absolute gem for anyone craving authentic Filipino comfort food. We ordered the bulalo soup, chicken adobo, pork pancit, and of course, lumpia—and every single dish was packed with flavor and generously portioned.
The bulalo was rich and hearty, with tender beef and a flavorful broth that warmed the soul. The chicken adobo was perfectly balanced—savory, tangy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The pork pancit was loaded with flavor and came in a portion big enough to feed a small army (not that we’re complaining!). And the lumpia? Crispy, golden, and gone in seconds.
Everything we ordered came out hot, fresh, and clearly made with love. The portions were more than fair—they were abundant. We left full, happy, and with enough leftovers to cover lunch for a week!
The staff was warm and welcoming, and the space had a cozy, inviting vibe that made the whole experience feel like a home-cooked meal...
