Before I profusely get into this food review, I'd like to say at least ONE positive thing about this restaurant, which was that our waiters were very nice and I do hope they find a new job where they aren't serving uncooked pasta with salt and water. Ok. Onto the review. When you walk in, it's a nice dark and elegant scenery. However, if you are claustrophobic, I would not recommend dining in here because I tripped over like 10 tables making my way to my table. Now for the food. I am in complete shock as to how they can serve this $30 pasta that's not even cooked . We complained that the noodles were hard and the manager had tried to correct us and educate us on the word "al dente" which ofc, we had full knowledge of. Almost 18 years in this country and he acts like I've never eaten pasta before???? Oh, and let me add, the manager did give us new orders of the spaghetti alle vongole and spaghetti alle carbonara. For this, I am thankful for, but when he set the dishes on the table he made a snarky comment saying "Here are your overcooked noodles." Overcooked? When we received our first order of these dishes, the noodles were so hard they weren't enjoyable to eat. I understand "Al dente" means firm.. but these felt raw. Its like they boiled these noodles for 30 seconds and thought "yeah thats good." Polpo Con Patate $20
First let's start with the starter, "polpo con patate". This was basically just calamari on top of mashed potatoes with tiny olive salt bombs. There were 4 pieces of octopus and 3 potatoes like what is that ratio?? The mashed potatoes were made into more of a liquid potato dip for the octopus which isn't a terrible idea but there was no seasoning. Overall not worth it. Now onto the main courses of the 3 pastas we had ordered. The Fettuccine di Mare al cartoccio, spaghetti alle vongole, and the Spaghetti alla Carbonara.
Spaghetti Alle Vongole $26 I would give it half of a star if I could. I would like to begin off with the worst pasta of the night and possibly the worst pasta I have ever had in my entire 17 years of living in the states. This was even worse than the time I made pasta and dumped in the noodles UNCOOKED btw. The sauce consisted of water and butter, nothing else besides the subtle hint of salt from the butter and I could taste a SINGULAR grain of garlic there was no flavor at all and not to mention the noodles were nowhere CLOSE to al dente like the manager had tried to explain to us. Now for the clams I didn't even give it a try, they were tinier than my nail size and there were only about 5 pieces. After it was brought back into the kitchen to cook the noodles longer, felt like they reheated it in the microwave and there was no drastic difference from when they were first served to us. There were just so many things wrong with this pasta it's making me mad just even having to type this out the next day.
Spaghetti alla Carbonara $24 How can you possibly mess up carbonara?? Carbonara is always so good. WRONG. Slightly better than the other spaghetti dish, this was also extremely undercooked and little to no seasoning. I will say though that the pork belly was decent and there was an okay amount of grated parmesan. I did not in fact see any zucchini nor did I taste any. Not much to say, I wasn't as enraged over the last pasta but this was still very substandard.
Fettuccine di Mare al cartoccio $32
For the price I would have expected more. This was a tomato based pasta so it did have more flavor than everything else. I didn't really taste any salt, maybe just some saltiness from the tomato but no real seasoning. The pepper was visible but still no taste of it! I do have some good things to say about the pasta though. The handmade noodles did indeed taste handmade and were cooked perfectly!!! OH and the salmon was quite satisfying, there weren't many pieces of salmon hence "mixed seafood" but from the one bite of it, it was reasonably tender and buttery. I didn't really eat this one, took a couple bites, they were mediocre. Again, still better than...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Barolo for the third time in as many months. Barolo is an Italian gem nestled in the heart of Seattle, and I must say it was an extraordinary culinary experience that left me utterly delighted. From the moment I stepped through the door, the warm ambiance and inviting aroma of authentic Italian cuisine set the stage for an unforgettable evening.
The star of the show, without a doubt, was the impeccable service provided by our server, Nicholas. His knowledge of the menu was truly impressive, and he effortlessly guided us through the culinary journey that awaited. Nicholas' passion for the cuisine and genuine enthusiasm added an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience. He went as far as to personally wish my wife a happy birthday. We were so grateful for his hospitality.
As for the food, each dish at Barolo was a masterpiece in its own right. From the perfectly cooked risotto to the mouthwatering seafood appetizer, it was evident that the chefs at Barolo take great pride in delivering a true taste of Italy. The flavors were rich and authentic.
The attention to detail in both the presentation and taste of each dish showcased the restaurant's commitment to excellence. The wine selection was equally impressive, with an array of carefully curated Italian wines that would have complemented our meal perfectly. As we aren't big wine drinkers, we indulged in the wonderful hand crafted cocktails. Nicholas does a great job of going off the cuff with our cocktail orders. My wife had a specialty martini crafted just for her pallet.
The ambiance at Barolo was sophisticated yet cozy, making it an ideal setting for a romantic evening, a celebratory dinner, or simply a night out with friends. The attentive and friendly staff, combined with the delightful surroundings, created an atmosphere that made us feel truly pampered.
If you haven't been here yet. Barolo is a must-visit for anyone in search of an authentic Italian dining experience in Seattle. From the moment you enter, you'll be treated to a culinary journey that celebrates the essence of Italian cuisine. A heartfelt thank you to Nicholas and the entire team at Barolo for making our evening truly exceptional. We can't wait to return and savor the flavors of...
Read moreVery nice place, But VERY over rated. Been here years ago decided to come back. I sat at the bar by my self like usual. Usually you get more interactions with service. The guy took my order and never checked on me just asked if i wanted another drink. I got calamari like last time but this time it was definitely different. It was like ravioli. (Not a huge fan of calamari soup) The bar guy Didn’t even ask how my food was ever. And he was moving to fast, so I felt like not disturbing him that it would be rude. I started off with a lobster risotto. The risotto was chewy and undercooked. The lobster was literally half of a lobster tail and that was literally the best part. Wayyyyy more risotto the lobster. I expected atleast a whole lobster tail. Not a just piece.🤣 over in 3 bites. Iam a big foodie. I do food blogs in Seattle on tik tok. Anyways after not being satisfied I finally caught the bartender’s attention,(still didn’t ask how was the food tasting so i could tell him that it was undercooked). I felt like not being confrontational. So i asked him if they had lamb chops (my favorite). He says yes it comes with 3. So I ordered it because I was still hungry. When I got the lamb chops it was actually 4 instead of 3. Maybe he’s new? He also left out that it comes with a terrible blueberry sauce with actual blueberries! If I was aware of that random sauce I would have told them to not put it on my plate. The only thing i had liked on the plate was the cauliflower. I never had the menu to read exactly what it was I just trusted the bartender because they’re the most knowledgeable people in the restaurant. But i believe it was spinach or some type of greens and they were soooooooooo greasy! Literally tasted like oil. Maybe I just need to study the menu harder and i just ordered the wrong stuff. but I just did not leave satisfied and I was upset and still...
