Read moreStumbling upon Koko's was a happy accident; I've been traveling to Seattle at least a couple times a year for various work trips, going on 30 years now. A few weeks ago, I found myself there, with nearly 40 others, trying to find a location for a team dinner in under 30 minutes. The reservation was the sole missed element of a week long team event.
We called Koko's and they said they had availability; I gave them my budget, and they gave us the seating & monitored our spend. We did go a little over, but who's really keeping track of the math when the food is that good. And also....it's a tequila bar, so what's 20% over amongst friends.
Particular recommendations: The mezcal old fashioned has a lot of moving parts, but it was great, and almost indistinguishable from its bourbon namesake.
All of the tacos we tried were great, but my favorite was the Al Pastor Ahi Tuna, which I ordered only reading "Al Pastor" expecting pork. Was initially disappointed but then pleasantly surprised once I took a bite. Dang, y'all, that's some good tuna.
And, yes another Ahi option, the Ahi Tuna Tostadas...I think various individuals from our group re-ordered those at least six times. So, so good.
Koko's was a true hidden gem....unless everybody already knew about them and I just found out in which case they were just hidden from me.
Our hostess was amazing, the waitstaff was awesome across the board, the bartenders were great, the chefs executed perfectly....I truly, truly wish this place well, and I hope to be back...

We visited Kokoâs in Capitol Hill after seeing it on TikTok, and let me tell youâit EXCEEDED expectations! We had an 8:30 PM reservation and got seated around 9, but honestly, we didnât even mind. The host (a super sweet guy!) went above and beyond, offering us different seating options and making sure we were comfortable. Even though they were incredibly busy, we never felt forgotten, which is rare for a party of two at a packed restaurant.
The vibes were immaculateâthink Tulum beach meets cozy, warm lighting. There was a DJ, though he was packing up as we sat down (đ). Our waiter, Joel, was AMAZINGâit felt like chatting with a friend! He gave us great recommendations and even talked to us about fun places to visit in Mexico.
Then, the unexpected magic happened: the host personally sent us chips and guacamole on the him! And at the end of the meal, our waiter surprised us with complimentary churros served in the cutest little wooden truck. LikeâŠwhat?! The service alone makes me want to come back!
Oh, and the food? INSANELY good. I had the Mexican poke bowl (such a unique, delicious combo!), and Simon devoured his chicken flautas. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented.
Honestly, even if Latin food isnât your usual go-to, Iâd recommend coming here just for the experience. The service, the hospitality, the atmosphereâitâs all next level. We even hugged the host on the way out because we felt so welcomed. Kokoâs is a...
