"A fool and his money are easily parted." I guess only fools go to Linda's Tavern.
I've been attending this totally awesome chess club here for the past... at least two, maybe three years? Many times it's been okay. But on nearly half a dozen times, I've paid significantly more than I expected to.
Tonight, it happened again, so I decided to check my receipt. My $9 special Quesadilla was $14 before tax. I asked the server about it, "That's the upcharge for guacamole and sour cream!" Tha guacamole and sour cream they asked if I wanted without quoting the upcharge, after I made it clear I only wanted it if it already came with the meal. I asked for a refund and to not bring the add-ons. "You already closed out, there's nothing I can do. I can give you a couple free refills of your soda!" Linda's already offers free refills on soda, and I could not see my receipt before closing out.
They've done this to me at least half a dozen times that I know of, probably many, many more over the years, from at least three or four different servers.
Hey, Linda. If your business model relies on your employees deceptively upcharging your patrons and hoping they are too drunk to notice, your business does not deserve to exist.
I will never spend another dime at Linda's Tavern, King's Hardware, or any of their other Seattle restaurants as long as I live. And as a once-regular patron, I would encourage you all to do the same as well.
The food is good. The drinks are nice. The atmosphere is awesome. The servers are practically scam...
Read moreI've been coming to Linda's for over six years and the food used to be great. Specifically, brunch food items have achieved the quality of dog biscuits and the portions have diminished all the while the prices continue to soar.
Don't get me wrong, I understand rising costs of running a business, but maintaining food quality is essential if you're going to charge me fifty bucks for an omelette with burnt toast and chicken and waffles that definitely came from a Costco freezer supply.
I implore you, if you're still reading, take your business to glo's. It's a couple dollars more per plate of food but you will at least have a high quality meal and in great portions.
The only reason why I'm giving more than one star is because the staff are still awesome and fast. But I hope y'all read this and get the food act together because this is a rotten joke of an experience to have as a long term resident of capitol hill who has experienced the rise and fall of many local businesses. It is extremely unlikely I will come back and waste my money trying to find out if you pull...
Read moreTo start off with, we may have just visited on the wrong day as our first time. Our group of three decided to have lunch on a Sunday, on Cinco de Mayo, at around 1pm. We were seated after a short wait and the staff was super friendly and attentive!
Our problems came when trying to order food. I don't know if a shipment was behind, they had been slammed earlier in the morning, or someone doing inventory messed up. They were out of gravy. GRAVY. As well as sausage, chicken fried steak, and some other items. Our server had to come back to the table twice because the kitchen was 86 so many things.
When we did get our food, the consensus was a resounding "meh." Food was tasty, but not outstanding, and everyone agreed the portion sizes are rather small for the price.
Overall, if you're in the area, give Linda's a go on a slower week day. For a weekend brunch, though, you might want to check out some other places...
