I've been to this location a bunch, but these last few times I've gotten the Sea Salt & Caramel Ribbons flavor, and it's all-time good
This flavor is some of the best tasting ice cream I've ever had. Firstly, the salt level is absolute perfect. I've said it before - but way too many places are afraid of salting their desserts because it sounds weird in their head. However, the flavor is brought out tenfold by the level of salt in the cream - but also particularly in the caramel
It's not just regular salt here - the reason for this incredible flavor comes from the fleur de sel infused within every bite of the ice cream. No matter how full you are, you just can't stop eating this.
Speaking of the caramel - if the salt is the vehicle, the caramel is the passengers inside. Its flavor is unreal - deep, rich, buttery, and addicting. It's present throughout the ice cream - not just sprinkled over.
Also, the texture of this ice cream is literally perfect. It's so thick - beautifully so - that it's the farthest thing from light and liquidy. Instead, it makes you taste the milk, the sugar, the dairy fat, and yes, the salt. At point its even slightly crunchy due to the thickness Ironically, it's when the ice cream is basically melted after about 20 minutes, and you get a soup-like bottom, that you feel the absolute hardest hit by the immense flavor held within this nuclear fireball of ice cream goodness
For the price, it's a little expensive for a scoop, but a single scoop is a pretty massive portion that's more than enough for a person
Overall, this is pretty easily one of the best tasting ice cream flavors I've...
Read moreHaving just recently moved to Seattle, I was advised by local tastemaker Seymour Downey to stop by Capitol Hill's Salt and Straw for a delicious scoop of ice cream and a free ticket to flavor town (tax not included). I came in hoping to be served by renowned milk chocolate aficionado, Jalen'e Douget, or Capitol Hill icon, Drew Lopez; but the expeditious structure of in-line service meant that I was not so lucky... or so I thought. The strangest woman with a most bizarre burn on her forehead, Millay was her name, came up to me and proceeded to put on an absolute masterclass of scoopsmanship. It was like I got a front row seat to the film Moneyball starring Brad Pitt, but instead of baseball, the movie is about tasty ice cream, and instead of statistics, Brad Pitt utilized sensational people skills. Also, Brad Pitt is actually a scooper named Millay who made several silly-goofy faces in order to lighten the mood. I was seriously impressed with her knowledge of all the flavors and her willingness to let me try as many as I wanted. Seriously, ask her about the bases, inclusions, and origins of each flavor. Her immense expertise will knock your socks off. I always feel intimidated by people in dessert oriented environments, but Millay was able to make the whole experience feel like playing. I know this shop already has a GM, but I'll be gosh darned if she wouldn't make a fantastic AGM if they...
