TOURIST SCAM! AVOID! On Sunday, April 20th around 5:30 PM, I stopped by Mee Sum Pastry hoping for a quick bite — and left completely disappointed, ripped off, and soaked from the rain to top it all off.
I ordered a Crab Rangoon and a Chicken Bao. The bao should have been called a mushroom bao cause there were more mushrooms than chicken. The Chinese woman charged me $6 for one single piece of the Crab Rangoon!!!! I wish I were joking when I say I got one single piece. Their website advertises six pieces! One. As in, singular. As in, not even close to what I paid for.
She made me pay before and wanted me to sign for a tip before she she put the items in the bag. She confidently charged me full price for 1/6th of the product. Then had the nerve to prompt for a tip? What exactly was I tipping for — the daylight robbery or the bad service?
It was pouring rain, so I didn’t even check until I got home — only to open the bag and realize I’d been completely scammed.
This place is a total tourist trap — all hype, no substance, and zero integrity. Do yourself a favor: walk past, and keep walking. Seattle has so many better places to eat that don’t overcharge...
Read moreWe were walking around Pike Place Market and saw a couple absolutely devouring a hom bow. Naturally, we had to ask where they got it and that’s how we found ourselves in line at Mee Sum Pastry. The line was long, which is always a good sign!
When we finally got up front, I was a little bummed to find out their veggie hom bow wasn’t ready yet. My boyfriend ordered the pork hom bow, and I went with the sweet red bean cake instead. He really enjoyed the pork, soft, flavorful, and packed with juicy filling. My red bean cake was a hit too, slightly sweet, and perfect for a quick bite while exploring the market.
They do accept cards, but it doesn’t seem like they have Apple Pay. I had to physically hand my credit card over. Not a big deal, just something to note if you’re used to tapping to pay.
This place is a must-visit when you’re at Pike Place. The pastries are great for grab-and-go while wandering through the market, and just watching the cooks behind the counter makes the wait totally worth it. I’ll definitely be back next time to try the...
Read moreI don’t usually bother with negative review as I try to find positives in all my dinning experiences, but my experience at Mee Sum Pastry was so unbelievably bad, I feel like it’s a public service to say something.
I ordered the Crab Rangoon, which is very clearly advertised as a 6-piece item. What did I get? ONE. One single Rangoon. Not a mistake of five, not even two. One. Like they were rationing them for the apocalypse.
To make things worse, the girl at the counter didn’t say a word about the missing pieces — just handed me the bag like everything was totally fine — and then had the nerve to ask me to sign a receipt. For what? For being blatantly ripped off? For paying full price for a sixth of the product?
No apology, no explanation, nothing. Just a straight face and a pen like this was all business as usual.
This place is either scamming people on purpose or run by folks who simply don’t care. Either way, I won’t be back — and I suggest you don’t waste your time or...
