I absolutely love this place and have been coming here for years, even when it was the tiny little dining room on the side. I commute between Seattle and Texas often and I always make an effort to stop here no matter how tight my schedule is. My last experience here was not a great one and honestly left a bitter taste and I hate that because I truly love the pies here.
My partner and I came here for lunch. The dining room was not that full. It did seem the staff was running around trying to cover their tables because they were short staffed. I perfectly understand that and we had time so that was not an issue. We ordered the marinated lacinato kale as a starter but my partner had a questions about the pine nuts due to food allergies. Our waiter did not acknowledge or even ask the cooking staff. Oh well we figured he was being stretched thin with tables and forgot, no worries.
We then ordered pizza. We both had sweet fennel sausage which is our favorite. When the pies came he threw them on the table and made a dry humor snarky comment "don't worry they don't have pine nuts" and just walked away. Now I keep making excuses for the waiter thinking he is having a bad day but the whole experience of being there is not going well for the both of us. We did not bother to finish our pies, I got up, paid and tipped our tab at the bar and headed out.
The whole time that day we just kept asking "what happened?". This was not like any time we have been there. I hate to rate it this way because as mentioned this was one of my favorite places downtown. Now I don't know how I feel about returning. The food is great but our experience certainly has us thinking about whether or not to...
Read moreYes, the pies are serious. Seriously good. Thursday at 6:30 was a busy time, but a 15 minute wait isn't bad and exactly what was quoted. Our server was friendly and full of personality, and she definitely sold me on trying the guava lemonade which was an unfamiliar combination. Each sip started with lemon and finished with guava, quite a unique experience. I ordered the sausage/pepper pizza, and here's my four point pizza review. -Crust: Good dough, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with the perfect amount of chewiness. Great char on the bottom - just enough to give it that brick oven flavor without tasting burnt. -Sauce: Sllightly sweet, tangy, and not overly herbed. The perfect amount contributing to overall moisture. -Toppings: Quality of sausage was good, and it had just the right amount of fennel which can be overpowering if not balanced right. Peppers were sliced thinly and had very nice flavor. When the pizza was first served I thought it seemed a light on the cheese, but after the first few bites I realized it was just the right amount to maintain a serious ratio of ingredients. -Preparation: Crust was stretched well, toppings evenly distrubuted, and overall doneness and color was perfect. Oval, and just the right size for one person. Slices were fully cut all the way through. I happily consumed every bite down to the last remnant of crust. My friend ordered the mushroom pizza, made with a cream sauce. The mushrooms were quite flavorful and good, but I preferred the extra emphasis from the red sauce on mine. Overall a very good pizza in a nice (albeit slightly noisy) environment, and good folks working there. Serious yum,...
Read moreWe knew when we came to Seattle we had to come to Serious Pie, which was on Thrillist.com's Best Pizza in Every State list. We went in on a Thursday and there wasn't too long of a wait - they had benches to sit on, which I appreciate. The staff was super nice, attentive, and created a great atmosphere. It's an intimate place with shared European-style tables and romantic lighting. They had a good selection of drinks, including a berry cider that was there to support Pride month that was pretty good. To start, we ordered the asparagus wrapped in prosciutto with an egg sauce - it was incredible. The asparagus was presented well and cooked perfectly, seared, and the sauce was divine - gingery and mustardy. I wanted to lick the sauce from the plate. For pizza we got the sweet fennel sausage with the red sauce, along with roasted peppers and onions and cheese. Their marinara sauce is really really good - hearty, not too sweet, and obviously homemade. The pizza was a little pricey for the size, but two people could split it, and it was wood fired and so good. The crust was perfect, thin but crispy, and very well flavored. For dessert we had the chocolate bundino, which was a perfect end to the meal. It was like a rich chocolate custard served with biscotti and some salt on top. They also had the option to take many of their alcoholic drinks and turn them into floats, which I really wish I had done. Also, they have a 20% service charge they add to every bill, which I'm a big fan of, because it's nice knowing that their staff is guaranteed a good wage. 10/10 worth a visit for...
