*Update for virtual escape room experience
During the pandemic, my friends and I decided to try a virtual escape room as a group activity, and it did not disappoint! While the experience is different from what you would expect in person, we enjoyed the time trying to solve the puzzles.
As this is my first experience doing a virtual escape room, our gamemaster, Willow, really made it interactive and a pleasant experience for my group. His enthusiasm and tentative to details when we were stuck at parts of puzzle made it more enjoyable. Though our time ran out (1 hour duration), he allowed us to keep playing because we were close to finish, and that it was only the gamemaster inside the room running around and solving the puzzles together, whereas in person everyone would do everything together. Kudos to the gamemaster and the business being understanding that the time limit should be extended.
Looking forward to their other virtual experiences they offer in the near future!
*1st Review for in-person experience
This was the second escape room that I have done, and I genuinely enjoyed this one a lot more! We did the Prison Break room where the puzzles were challenging, but also a lot of fun and try to solve and figure out. The puzzles were hard at times, but that's what made it fun and made us think outside the box. Everything in the escape room was really organized and thorough, and I was really impressed with the escape room as a whole.
Staffs were also super nice and friendly and gave us clear instruction and helped us when we needed. I would definitely go back again with my friends to try out the other two rooms they offer! Would recommend all to come here for a night of fun, brain teasers or a group bonding activity!
Located right in the heart of downtown and by Pike Place, I suggest either go before or after the escape room to grab a bite or walk around. It's also within walking distance of...
Read moreI've done a number of escape rooms, and this one definitely had its positives and negatives. We did the Zodiac room, which was quite well-structured from the beginning, with a very exciting opener, cool room-design, and unique progression. I will say that four is definitely the maximum number of people I would have in this room. Any more would have been too crowded, and there wasn't much that was worked-on in parallel.
However, what somewhat brought our experience down was the volume of unprompted (and often unnecessary) hints we received. It seemed that our hosts got a bit too involved in telling the story and providing directly obvious hints, when we only formally requested one at the beginning. For example, there was a point when we were already moving towards a clue with an idea on how to solve it, and our host spoke over the speaker, saying the direct steps to solving it... Even without giving us the chance to implement our ideas. It wasn't like we were running out of time, either, we finished with 19 minutes to-go. As puzzle-people, this was somewhat frustrating, as the fun is individually trying (and often failing) before eventually succeeding and celebrating the team's cleverness.
This is no direct faults to our hosts, as they were extremely nice and welcoming, and I'm sure it's difficult to gauge the amount a group would like their hand-held through the room. This experience just wasn't gauged correctly.
All in all, the room was exciting and I would definitely recommend it, but I would ask Fox in a Box to maybe speak with the groups before the room and understand how they would like to be walked through the room (if at all), beforehand. Thank you for a...
Read morerecent edit: Went back the following year for a different room, experience was better, Atmosphere nice, but three times puzzles were faulty to the point of staff having to help fix (including the first puzzle which while being blinded and handcuffed was frustrating)
Note: we didn’t play the escape room, but leaving a negative review for bad service not once but twice. I love escape rooms and we were all excited for this in one-
We arrived early for our booking, and no one was in the lobby, we waited in the lobby for about 10 minutes. They had buzzed us in so we knew they knew we were there. To our surprise, a woman opens a door in the lobby and very loudly starts going over the clues for a just completed room with her co-worker. She lists out all the main cyphers of the room, where to find them and what they should spell out etc. We asked her were these the hints for our upcoming room- she confirmed and then said jokingly that we should close the door (that she opened?). We did not want spend $45 per person + for a room we knew all the clues for. We waited till a couple minutes past our booking time but no one else came out at all(even to start our room or offer another one), so we left. About 15 pass booking time we got a call asking where we were. Which was confusing bc we had seen two employees at that point. I called back the next day to explain the situation and got a woman clearly was confused why I was bothering to call. She made no motions to offer another room, or a discount or literally even more then a kind of annoyed apology. So in summary, Escape Rooms are about immersion and the immersive element was destroyed here by...
