Luk Fu Maryland — Restaurant in Severn

I frequent the casino about 2 or 3 times per month. I have been to Luk Fu 4 times in 2019. I wanted to try and be fair in my review but I have to say that I won't be back. I have two issues. Service (or lack thereof) and the food (overpriced and not consistent). I really tried to be fair in my review and not base it on one visit. I did have one visit in which the waiter/waitress was very good but the other 3 were just sub par. If you order multiple dishes, why do the orders just trickle out one by one? Why can't the orders come out all at one time? Why does the waiter/waitress not come back to check up on you to see if everything is ok and if you need water. I am Asian and I am embarrassed by the bad service. I do have to say that a lot of Asian restaurants do not have good service. The food is very inconsistent and overpriced (in my opinion). Perhaps I am ordering the wrong items but I figure Chinese food dishes should be a safe bet. Best items that I have ordered are the fried rice and lo mein (shrimp varieties). General Tso's has no breading and is not like other restaurants (healthier perhaps but not all that good). The chicken with broccoli is very inconsistent. Couple times I have had it and it was good other times it was very bland. Plus, I am not sure what this restaurant does with it's chicken and beef but the texture is very strange at times (must be adding starch or baking soda). I have also ordered some of the Korean fare (galbi) and also the pho. Both are average. I think Luk Fu could be so much better. ...

Today, March 3, 2023, I ordered one large fried rice with shrimp and chicken to go and hostess said $37.49, I said what? Say that again. She repeated it and I asked my wife, do you still want this? She said yes, because for $37 she figured that it would be a large size and very tasty. I must say that I was disappointed in the portion size. The food however tasted ok, but not $37 ok. Then to make matters worse, is how the hostess looked at me when I questioned the price. If looks could kill I would be dead. So we were told that the food would be ready in 30 minutes. We proceeded to take a seat at the bar that had yet to be cleaned up and the other hostess refused to let us sit there saying that there is no waiting area and that they were busy. I counted 6 open seats at the bar and 4 open tables and no one waiting in line to be seated. I believe that she did this because I am Black and was dressed down due to rain and cold outside. I will not go back there again and I plan to share this information with tens of thousands of social media users. What also gets me is that this restaurant is inside of Maryland Live Casino and nearly half the patrons are Black. If I have my way, Luk Fu would be out of luck!

UPDATE: On March 4, 2023 the owner replied to my review via email and asked me to contact them via email. I did so and it is now March 18th and no response. Hopefully they will check their spam folder and get back to me with a solution if they mean to...

Finally a decent sushi restaurant in the area. Now do remember this is in a casino so pricing wise it is about 50% more than what you would expect to pay. I stopped by for lunch with a business partner. We ordered an Ahi Poke appetizer, Maki shrimp tempura roll, Maki spider roll (soft shell crab roll), Chirashi sashimi platter, and 2 black milk bubble teas. Our total came out to about $81 without tip.

Poke was beautifully platted. Flavor was on point with sesame oil, fresh fish and average amount of sauce. The Maki rolls we ordered were not worth the price. They tasted like other spider and soft shell crab rolls, but you only get 3 large pieces for each order. We thought we were getting more food and asked the server and Chef to confirm this small portion size. The Chirashi was served on a platter with sticky rice. Not a fan of sticky rice and sashmi because of the texture. The platter itself had plenty of fresh fish and avocado. I do wish it was plated better. It look like a amateur Chef tossed everything on a platter and called it a day.

Service here is hit or miss. I do understand they just opened. You won't have any problem getting a server and they are always quick to assist you. I'm giving this location a high rating just because of the great service and quality of food. I'll be back to try some of their nigiri and...
