Wednesday August 28th, my wife and I came in with intentions of having a long-awaited date night. As we walked in there wasn’t anyone at the host stand to greet us. After standing in the front for a few minutes I approached the server who was caring for the lounge tables and asked if they were self-seating. Once she informed me that they were, I grabbed my wife & we sat at a table directly in front of the bar. Said server, Toy, came over to get us started on drinks.
I was feeling under the weather and ordered a hot tea for myself and my wife ordered a water. We told Toy, once she returned with the drinks we would be ready to order, as we were @ Live for the Sublime concert. When she came back with the drinks along with bread & bread we began to place our order. It was 7:41 PM when my wife ordered a Med-well burger and I ordered a single crab cake with a side of mashed potatoes. At the time of placing the order/asking questions, she was very dry, a little snippy and quite frankly, wasn’t pleasant.
A few minutes after we placed our order there was a gentleman that was sitting at the bar who walked up to the manager extremely irate! We overheard him complain about how his meal either tasted or smelled spoiled/sour. The manager took his plate away and when she returned she apologized and attempted to rectify the situation and remake his food but he stated he was freaked out and didn’t want anything else.
Roughly 10-12 minutes after we placed our order, a couple takes a seat behind us, but at the bar. The bartender tends to the immediately; gets their drinks and places their order. We were noticing how personable & attentive Toy was to 2 separate tables of 3 gentlemen at each. But not once did she come over to check back on us; I was in need of more hot water for my tea and we also needed more butter.
At 8:05 we began getting frustrated at the lack of hospitality. It had been 20 minutes since we ordered and Toy never once came back to check on us or communicate any update on our food. At 8:12 (30 minutes after ordering) a gentlemen approached our table with a tray of food. When we made eye contact with the food and noticed that none of the food belonged us, and was actually for the couple at the bar that ordered 15 minutes after us, I was furious and had enough.
I noticed the manager at the host stand and addressed her immediately. I noted that I understood they seemed to be having a rough night with unhappy guest at the bar and further explained our situation. She assured me that she was going to check on our food. When I sat back down it was 8:16 and Toy made her way over to our table to refill my hot tea . Her exact words were “The manager told me you were asking about your food and needed more hot water.” She never apologized for, nor acknowledged the wait, nor did she provide any update on our meals. We were so hungry yet fed up at the same time with the entire experience, that we said we didn’t want our food anymore and just wanted to pay for our drinks so we could leave and get to our show. Upon her getting the manager to edit the check the food arrived and she sent them away.
The manager never came back to speak to us, update us, nor apologize. Once we paid for our hot tea & soda is when Toy said “I’m sorry about everything.” and walked away. Her “apology” Was far from sincere. We paid for our meals in advance as apart of the package we purchased with our tickets and it was far from worth it.
I, myself, make a living as a server which made this night even more upsetting. My wife and I work opposite schedules due having two different careers. Between us working and caring for our son, we rarely get date night. And being that I’m always on the other end of this situation, I was highly disappointed. As a server, when we go out, we tend to be more critical, notice things others don’t, or have high expectations. I wasn’t asking for those expectations to be met, I simply wanted to be treated as she was treating her guest around us. I really hope my next experience is nothing...
Read moreI visited The Prime Rib for my dad's birthday on a fairly slow Wednesday night. Since the restaurant was attached to a casino, I went in expecting an overpriced restaurant that attracts those that have just won big next door. This wasn't far off.
We walked in and were greeted by a lady in a dress that was far too tight for her; they asked if we had a reservation and we said we did. She started clicking away on a computer but looked a bit lost. That's fine - she seemed new. Someone came to help her, and they found our reservation. We finally were led to our seats.
The table was nice and the chairs felt sturdier than most. Next to us was a glass wall with hundreds of wines on display. My parents and I are huge wine nerds so this was great. The casino was right next door, but we couldn't hear a sound from it. The room was really nice.
Our waiter was an older gentleman, and he was very nice and gave us ample time to look at the menu. Four of us ordered two Maryland crab soups, oysters rockefeller, and the tomato salad as appetizers. They got the order wrong, though, because they only brought out three appetizers initially. They corrected it by bringing another soup immediately which was undoubtedly already prepared and sitting in a pot as soups do. The appetizers were nothing to rave about. The oysters were probably the best of the three.
For the entree, we ordered two cuts of the prime rib and one cut of the 24oz prime dry aged ribeye. A second time they got the order wrong, and they brought out one of the prime ribs medium rare instead of rare. They offered to fix it after my mother mentioned this. The rare actually looked a bit too rare to her, though, so she kept hers. Regardless, that isn't a mistake that should happen in the first place. The meat did taste very good as you would expect from a place called "The Prime Rib."
On the side, we had brussel sprouts, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and lobster mac and cheese. These sides were overwhelmingly average. The sprouts were serves with bacon and would have done well to be crispy and crackly. Instead, they were soggy and wet. The mushrooms were similarly soggy. The number one thing to do when cooking mushrooms is to not crowd them - this allows them to properly brown. These mushrooms did not seemed to be cooked like that and had no browning whatsoever. The lobster mac and cheese was good, not great (and not worth $18). I've had better from a food truck. The artichoke hearts were just okay and lacked anything special to care about. It is safe to say that the sides need to be improved.
For dessert, we had a cheesecake, a brownie, and bananas foster. I had the brownie, and it was actually very good. It was fudgy, rich, and definitely would benefit from being ordered a la mode. My one issue was that it wasn't warm! The brownie was delicious - but served cold? This made no sense to me. Maybe some people like cold brownies.
Finally, the meal had ended, and I looked around and saw 3 of the 4 water glasses empty. It became apparent that our glasses hadn't been refilled the entire meal. For a place that seems to pride itself on service, this was surprising. Then, we get the check, and there are 2 baked potatoes on there that we never ordered. Another weird service error. We mentioned it to the waiter, and he apologized before my mom had even finished pointing out the error. Something about this just seemed a bit fishy. The waiters were nice all night, but these little mistakes just add up.
The short: The place is just okay, and for the price tag, just okay ain't good enough. They had good meat and a great wine list, but the rest of the food, especially the side dishes, lacked anything to care about. The service was nice, but a few too many mistakes left a sour taste in our mouth. Go here if you made too much money next door and need to blow some of it. If you are in the area and looking for a night of fine dining, better...
Read moreWe have dined at Prime Rib downtown Baltimore several times and it has always been excellent in every way.
Wife and I were doing some research to prepare for family coming to visit us in a couple of weeks so we decide to try The Prime Rib at Maryland Live!
The experience of walking in via the casino, and accompanying poorly dressed casino crowd cheapens the entire experience.
Post-meal, it now makes sense, and should be taken as a sign of caution that this location is not even included on the website, theprimeribs dot com, of the original Baltimore and DC sites.... just sayin. caveat emptor.
ATMOSPHERE: Having to deal with all the tacky casino atmosphere just to get into the restaurant starts things off on the wrong foot. Where the Baltimore location is like a nice urban Hells Kitchen vibe, this is just glaring lights, and masses of thugs and their 'posses' poorly dressed like thugs bad video actors, thronging their way into the casino via the same doors you have to use to get into The Prime Rib. Not a great way to start what was supposed to be a special dining experience. If you don't want to do valet parking be prepared to walk 10 minutes or so if you come on a thurs, fri, or sat.
Entering into the restaurant, the interior of the reception area is nice enough but as soon as you walk through you must go through a very poorly designed bar area, filled with high top tables, bright lights, and no seeming rhyme or reason to the decor. It's not at all that jazzy supper club NY steak house vibe that one expects from the legacy. It just felt cheap. Clientele was mostly dressed as if they were going to a sports bar to eat chicken wings. At best, they should have some very heavy drapes or shutters or something else to more completely separate that failed outdoor seating area from the main dining room.
FOOD & SERVICE: Service started out nicely enough. We were greeted within just a couple of minutes after being seated. Server was pleasant and gave a nice rundown of the nightly specials, and took our drink order. We were not having any wine so we opted for a bottle of VOSS flat water, and started reviewing the menu.
My steak was ordered medium and came out a very well medium well with only several small bites having even a hint of pink.
After 3 minutes of cutting into it the server still had not come back by the table to check on the preparation so I decide to just go ahead and eat it. There were only 7 other tables in the main dining room...
Menu prices are definitely top of the range for pretty much any major city in the US. and possibly even higher.
(all prices shown below include tax) $75 for their basic ribeye steak. No sides included. Terribly overcooked, grey dry, SO SAD. $38 for roasted chicken. It was good, but not enough to save the meal.
$26 for 6 medium size oysters rock. Very enjoyable and the only part of the entire meal I could recommend, other than the price. Even for a high end restaurant that's pushing it.
$208 for ONE POUND of king crab legs. $208 for ONE POUND of king crab legs. $208 for ONE POUND of king crab legs. $208 for ONE POUND of king crab legs. Oh wait- I think I forgot to say: $208 for ONE POUND OF KING CRAB LEGS
The Bottom Line: Overall, extremely overprice for the atmosphere and food quality. It lacks the polish and attention to fine details the Baltimore and DC locations. The casino just lowers the bar for the entire experience.
We had terrible service overall. No excuse for nothing checking back within the first 2 minutes of a meal being served- especially at a steakhouse!
Massively overpriced considering MISSES ON THE FOOD all the other fails in service and atmosphere.
If you want a special night try the original Baltimore location or Capital Grill which is light years ahead in...
