Since we were going back home, we decided to have breakfast here. Like any breakfast/brunch place this place was busy even on a weekday. We gave our name and waited for twenty minutes and then got seated inside. They have a pretty good menu with all day breakfast served. We ordered coffee, apple and orange juices to drink. To eat we ordered a French toast special which comes with a choice of bacon or sausage and an egg along with six French toast, Rostii , Strawberry waffle and Mountain omelette. Indeed for an American breakfast, you will never go hungry because they always serve a big portion. The lady who took our order was pretty experienced in every way as for each order she asked for what side orders of any, or how do you want your egg to be done etc. The food came to our table in no time and the syrup, marmalade, sugar everything was on the table served which she called out. Everything was so perfectly done and called out that all we had to do was eat. Everyone enjoyed their first day of the meal and as I said big portions, so we did pack our leftovers in a box. The service is excellent even though they are busy. The staff is very polite and helpful. This place has a lot of merchandise with the restaurant name, such as coffee mugs, t-shirts, caps, soft toys etc. They have a separate chai place where you can order chai while you're waiting. The overall experience is awesome and yes, you must visit here if you're around this place. I love to support the local businesses.

We always enjoy eating at the Red Hut when we come to So. Lk Tahoe! It was a Saturday at noon, so we expected to have to wait a bit. About 15-20 minutes didn't seem long as we browsed through the fun items for sale in the gift shop area. Service was friendly and food came pretty promptly after we decided from their many selections what to order. They have a large menu plus daily specials. The avocado and cheese (pepper jack was chosen, and nice pepper flavor!) omelet was huge and the side of hashbrowns nice and crunchy for contrast. On what I think it was called 'Dan's Special'?, the two pancakes were very large and fluffy, and tucked underneath were the bacon and eggs! An extra plate was provided so you could keep your proteins separate from the pancake syrup with the pancake! ;-) Classic eggs and sausage with hashbrowns was very good, and the Ortega chili cheese burger was super delicious. Onion rings were chosen instead of French fries, and they were some of the best I've had: just the right amount of coating, hot and crispy. We all agreed the coffee was GOOD! It's sad this place is no longer open for dinner--they used to have great specials (I think that changed since the Covid Pandemic). Get there before closing time, which I think is now 2pm.

I know this is a South Lake Tahoe classic, so I wanted to love it — but it just didn’t quite hit all the marks I was hoping for. The menu is all-American diner fare, and while the ingredients were typical for a greasy spoon, it tasted less like it was “made with love” and more like the kitchen was pushing quantity over quality. Granted, we were at the tail end of a long wait from the mid-morning rush, so it’s possible their day had been really busy. The over-medium eggs and hashbrowns were great, and there was plenty of ketchup and hot sauce on the table. The pancake was fine, but it was a bit disappointing to pay extra for bananas just for them to be on top, and not cooked inside, the pancake — had we known it was a topping and not a core ingredient, we would have opted for something else. The country fried steak got was not bad, though the gravy was very mild on flavor. I was hoping for something with that homemade touch, but it felt more like food I’d be eating at any number of diners. To be honest, we saw some plates of french toast at the order counter as we were wrapping up, and I snagged a picture because they looked delicious. If I were to go back to Red Hut, I’d be more willing to gamble on the French toast than have a repeat. Ultimately though, brunch spots are limited in South Lake Tahoe, so sometimes good enough is still good. I’d be willing to try again if a long-time loyal fan showed me the ropes, otherwise I’ll likely try somewhere new next time.

If you are looking for a really good dinner style cozy place to have breakfast this is the spot. Honestly overall some of the best food we had in South Lake Tahoe over this last weekend for our honeymoon. We had a few other not so great experiences and the fact that this quaint little diner be out some of the bigger food experiences is saying a lot. The staff is friendly the atmosphere is cozy and has a cute ski aesthetic inside. Seriously can't say enough about how good the food was packed with flavor and phenomenal if you happen to be going up this fall or into the winter if they still have their pumpkin waffles on the menu you have to get it it was huge and so good. Their other breakfast tables are great eggs or perfectly they're hash browns are just crispy enough and the sausage is amazing. We will not be going anywhere else for breakfast when we go into town in South Lake anymore.

Food was good for what it was, it was exactly what it should be :) We were there for Labor Day 😬 super busy!! sat us outside in the sun… their umbrellas do not tilt so it didn’t help that they had umbrellas it was very hot! We asked to be moved and they were able to accommodate us :) waited way too long for service. Overall The service was okay :( food was good not outstanding. As For pricing is pretty fair but the chicken and waffle I though it need it a little love $16 for 2 pieces of chicken tenders and one waffle was not enough for my 11 year old! I wish they were more mindful about the seating and long wait for service but maybe next time will be better 🥰 this location was next to a church!

I discovered this cute little restaurant while visiting Tahoe. It’s tiny and cozy, but has a great breakfast vibe. Stopped here to have breakfast before the drive home and I’m glad we did. I got the Don’s special with two pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheese and crispy bacon. Besides the eggs having way too much cheese, everything was pretty tasty I must say. We came here during the week, and it was still pretty crowded. So make sure that you aren’t starving because most likely there will be a small wait. It’s a small location, but they move pretty quickly. And we didn’t end up waiting very long at all. I will definitely come back again next time I am in the area.
