Continuing our everlong love of all things breakfast, we headed to Jake’s to satisfy a hankering desire for pancakes. Here’s what we saw: From the outside the restaurant looks good with a dog friendly patio and decent parking around the side of the building. The inside is clean and well maintained with a few TVs to catch games. We sat outside since we had our dog with us and our server was fantastic. He had a lot of jokes, knew when to give us space, and was just incredibly attentive all around. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ran out. The food was very mediocre, granted they just started serving breakfast recently so they’re probably trying to work the kinks out. We ordered the pancake breakfast with breakfast potatoes, bacon, and Texas toast as well as the chillaquiles with beef fajita. The pancakes were very thin and chewy, definitely not a high quality batter and not moist. The bacon likewise was chewy and the toast was, well, toast. The best part of the dish were the breakfast potatoes which had a good texture and flavor to them. As for the chillaquiles, it was decent. A bit of a messy plate but nothing that took away from the meal. The beans, tortilla chips, etc were good but the best part was the beef fajita, seasoned well and pretty juicy. Again, it’s hard to write this place off as a 3 star because we think they’re a work in progress on the breakfast side and likely have better food on other parts of the menu, we can just only write about our experience. Service was phenomenal, that cannot be understated. Likely a place we will try again if ever back in SPI and hopefully we can rate higher next time!

A Hidden Gem with the Best Beef Tacos in Town! 🌮🔥 I've been to Jake's Restaurant and Bar five times now, and I have to say—I've found my go-to dish. On my first visit, I ordered the Mexican plate, which came with one beef taco 🌮. That one taco was so good that every visit since, I’ve taken to ordering the three beef taco entrée—because one taco 🌮 just wasn’t enough! These tacos 🌮 are packed with flavor—the spices, the way the beef is cooked, and the generous portions of fresh ingredients make every bite amazing. I like to add sour cream and guacamole, and with a side of rice and my choice of refried or charro beans, it’s always a hearty, satisfying meal. And at just $12? Absolute steal! Beyond the food, the service is top-notch. The servers are attentive, friendly, and quick to offer recommendations. A server nicknamed Cricket has helped me multiple times and always made me feel welcome—asking about my time here, where I’m from, and making sure I had everything I needed. One standout moment: They let me bring my dog, Samantha, into the bar area on a warm 85-degree day. We both got to enjoy the A/C, some amazing tacos 🌮, and a relaxing time at the bar. That kind of hospitality is rare and much appreciated! If you're looking for great food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere, Jake’s is a must-visit. And trust me—get the three beef tacos! 🌮🌮🌮

We walked and were seated immediately. I was confused by where they sat us because no one could see us, and I don't want to say it was the color of our skin, the reason why we hid. Other than that, the person who helped us, Mario and I, could be spelling it wrong but not a name I could forget, did an excellent job helping us. He told us about the summer drink for the kids. He made sure to check on us every so often. The appetizer was good and hot. We had MOZZARELLA STICKS. Waiting on the food, we was told what was taking too long, big party. Out food arrived nice and hot. I had the 2 taco plate and enchilada. My daughter had chicken breat with potatoes, and it should've been a salad, not green beans. My nieces had the shrimp basket with fries, and grandson had fish basket. Everything was cooked perfectly. Every employee walked by us spoke and made sure we were good. The desert we ordered was a carrot cake, a brownie with ice cream. All of ot was fresh and moist and tasted real good. This place, if you are in South Padre, a place to stop at.

Upon arriving there was a sign wait to be seated and nobody in sight to attend us or seat us for a while and when a server came to seat us instead of greeting my family she was having a conversation with another server while walking us talking about the employee who wasn't at the front like she should have been and said she was going to tell her off and she seemed very agitated. This is a very bad way to start a service seeing as how my family didn't want to get anyone in trouble and problems in house should be handled with discretion and more tactfully. I was still so excited to eat here because it was pet friendly and we only planned to eat out once together as a family on our short vacation. The server was very closed minded. She said no changes to the menu were allowed so when ordering chips and salsa appetizer I asked if I could please have a side of guacamole and she said in order to get that she would have to charge me 2 separate appetizers one Chips and salsa and one guacamole and salsa. I told her I didn't want that I wanted only the guacamole and she didn't say anything and still charged me both appetizers until I complained to her to talk to someone and she went and fixed it. Then I wanted to order just a extra patty or meat for my dog and she said she would have to charge me 10$ for just the patty I said what about if I got the kids meal and I don't want nothing but the meat she said I was required to pay full price for a whole meal even if I didn't want it in order to accommodate it. How is this pet friendly if u have nothing to accommodate allowing them to come but in all honesty those all were small issues compared to rude server I received I will never bring my family here again. I've never felt less welcomed in all my visits to SPI. The sad part is I spent over $100+ to be treated like they didn't have time for me and rudely when they only had 2 other tables besides me. * do...

This place is horrible from hostesses to server to nonexistent manager. Restaurant had maybe 10 tables occupied and at least 4 servers. Only positive was the bartender that knew how to make a drink and if they even had what was needed, as the 1st 2 servers had no clue. Musician was too loud and out of tune.

Took forever to get a server to acknowledge our table of 4. Iced tea came with all of 4 melted ice cubes when asked for more ice got it in a to go cup. Refills were nonexistent as well. Ordered appetizers and the waitress hovered waiting for our full order. We obliged but said we wanted our appetizers before the meal....well, she took that as on the tray delivered right before our meals. Didn't even have enough room on the table for 2 appetizers and 4 entrees. Literally had to balance food in our laps until we could make enough room. Appetizer was cold (fried pickles).Burger was soggy with grease. Shrimp was frozen, not fresh. Quesadillas were made with processed cheese as you could see the clumpy cheese and grease drip out-Disgusting!! Baked potato was cold. Fries were cold. We chose this restaurant for the variety and all 4 different choices were horrible.

Only saw the waitress once more after having to hunt her down for the check. $85 for 4 people that we didn't eat more than a bite or 2 of any of our meals. Too many other options to choose here .. you have...
