This is one of the nicest places I have been to in spanish fork, and I think some of the other mexican food places should be worried, in some ways.
First lets look at the location/interior. I have been eating at this location for nearly 20 years. The old sandwich place (before it was sold) was fantastic, but I dwell in the past. There is so little on this side of the freeway, that it is great to have something in the area. The building has been nearly completely redone. The old bakery, the enclosed veranda, flooring, etc. There area few old decorations from the sandwich shop, but for the most part it has been completely redone. Kudos for all your hard work.
The people were great. We showed up with about 18 people. We were unannounced and just popped in. We had another employee that was leaving and wanted to celebrate. The employees bent over backwards to make things work for us. They were great to deal with, and sometimes we get employees that grumble when large groups show up, this one did not.
The food was done fast, really fast and was really well done. We have people ordering dinners, lunch, misc items. It all came out at the same time, and was well presented. They did take the time to explain that some ordered dinner and others lunch, so take account that the portions were smaller in the lunch menus. Just so we did not get caught off guard.
I ordered the Chimichanga. I love them, and there is a standard style to them. I don't think this met what I expected, but more on that in a second. It had more flavor that most places I have been to in a long time.
Now I come to the good and the bad of the location. Whether or not this is for you will really have to do on what you are looking for. If you are looking for bulk food, cheap prices, and getting out fast, then you should heat to betos, or someplace similar. If you want bulk food, in a restaurant setting but low quality, I would also say that you should go somewhere else. This location will not give you a ton of food, but it will give you great service and great taste. My chimi was tiny compared to most, but the flavor was great.
Basically if you want a lot of food, lots of leftovers, this will be a 4 star place for you. If you are there for smaller amounts, but more flavor/taste, this will fall into a 5 star. Just know what you want before...
Read moreThis is the last Spanish Fork Restaurant I haven't been to yet, and definitely didn't disappoint. To make it clear, we will be coming back again. The interior is much much larger and well decorated than I was led to believe by just looking through the windows. The atmosphere is nice and the music that plays is tasteful Latino music rather than the stereotypical mariachi style music. It played into a nice cool soothing tone that allowed you to relax while you ate food. The server was very clear and helpful, helping me to choose the dish that would best represent totonacos as a whole. We ordered the pineapple fajita as per his recommendation, along with some bean and cheese nachos. The pineapple fajita is definitely a showstopper dish, as it comes out from the kitchen on fire and is a pineapple packed full of their finest meats and served alongside 3 flour tortillas, beans, rice, guacamole, pico de gallo, lettuce, and sour cream. It was a fun choose your own adventure type dish where you could build it the way you wanted, and I highly suggest getting their hottest hot sauce on there because it has a deliciously smoky flavor to it. The food was super hot and kept well, and everything was seasoned very nicely, though the beans could use salt. Their chips are very thick and not served warm, but they do have a very nice flavor to them. The free salsa is also a little blanding on the tomato-y side, but works as an appetizer. Their cheese sauce is also incredibly good, to the point that we think next time we will order the pineapple fajita again and just order a cup of cheese sauce to dip with the free chips! Good job to Totonacos for being the last ones on my list to complete my Spanish Fork journey, and certainly not being the least!
On May 5th I tried the burrito Colorado, and it was incredible. Slathered in cheese sauce, it...
Read moreThe service was fine, as should be expected. The food was okay. I ordered ceviche and a combo (chicken, ground beef, and shrimp) chimichanga. My father ordered chicken enchiladas. We had to box up leftovers as we couldn't or wouldn't finish everything. There was plenty on each plate. The chips are homemade and were very good. My father took one bite of his enchilada and knew he wouldn't finish. I'm not as discerning as he is and ate my chicken chimi, and a bite of each of the others. The only thing in these tortillas was meat, no sauce, nothing else but meat, and it was relatively dry. The shrimp and beef were okay, but the chicken was dry and actually kind of rubbery. The ceviche tasted okay, but a good ceviche isn't mixed up with pico de gallo. It's served with those on the side, and made with solid chunks of fish. What I was served seemed like it could have come from a can. It was almost ground up. This is the second time I've eaten there and realized why I don't go there more often. Maybe because we got there at 2, after the lunch rush, the meat was a bit dryer than normal. If the owners see this review, I hope they can change some of the things. Don't overcook the meat, especially the chicken. Don't mix the ceviche. Keep it chunky. Don't serve the ceviche with salad crackers rather with chips. Add something else in the tortillas...
