Stopped in at Katie’s Pizza & Pasta around 4 PM on a weekday. The restaurant is spacious and well-designed, with a comfortable ambiance and plenty of open seating at that time.
Unfortunately, our first impression wasn’t great. Although the restaurant had many open tables and booths, we were initially seated next to the kitchen at a small, awkward location table. When we asked for a booth, the host’s response was indifferent at best. No smile, no warmth, and a general “I don’t want to be here” energy. We were eventually moved to a large booth after they checked with a manager, but the interaction left a sour first impression. Funny thing is, during our meal, another couple were walked to the same exact table that we were initially taken to, and they were displeased with the random location of the table and requested to be moved as well. Though they had a slightly nicer interaction with a different team member, the team member did not seem to know how to confidently navigate their request, and the guests basically walked to the table they wanted and were eventually seated.
That said, our server was professional, more welcoming, and checked in to make sure we had what we needed, but it was very basic service, transactional, but at least there was a smile and an attempt to be friendly.
As for the food: The Summer Squash Pizza was fresh and well-balanced—nicely baked dough, flavorful pesto, and a light touch of ricotta. It stood out as the favorite.
The Black Garlic & Artichoke Pizza sounded bold and exciting on the menu, but the garlic, lemon, and honey notes didn’t come through in the dish itself. The toppings felt a bit dry and muted.
The Arugula Salad was fresh, but very simple. For the price point, I expected something with a bit more depth.
While the food was enjoyable overall, I’d recommend the restaurant take a closer look at the guest reception process. First impressions matter, and a more welcoming tone from the host team would go a long way toward aligning the hospitality with the quality of the food and the space. When we left, there were three front desk team members at the desk chatting and giggling with one another, and while one of them did eventually acknowledge us and thank us for coming, it did seem like a bit of an unprofessional representation of the restaurant.
I would return to try more of the menu. Service does matter, but good food matters too. If the same care were applied to the initial guest interaction, the experience would be outstanding from...
Read moreAte here on a Sunday night around 6pm, several hours after a Red Birds game which we came to see from out of state.. Place is very nice, very clean. Hostess sat us right away. Waitress came over quickly and took drink and then food order. We ordered a salad, a margarita pizza and a meatball pizza. Everything was fresh and "looked" deliscious. But honestly, it just didnt taste all that great. The arugala salad was ok, arugala is just very bitter by itself. The dressing and pine nuts were great. But straight arugala wasnt it. I think a spring mix would have been a better choice.
The pizzas seemed slightly under cooked. The dough was breadlike, not crispy at all. And honestly, the dough was just blah....bland....didnt do anything. The sauce was pretty good. The cheeze was still in clumps (not shredded) as if it wasnt in oven long enough to melt. It was just large clumps of cheese and and big meatballs. The meatball flavor was very good. However, on a pizza I think they should be sliced. Half or nearly whole meatballs are too big to bite into, and they roll off the slice. Especially since the dough seemed undercooked and limp. It couldnt hold the toppings when you picked a slice up. Everything just slid off. The pizzas were just very average at best, at least to us.
I feel sort of bad about this. This place seemed like it had alot of potential and is very nice. Great service by the staff, which is why we give it a couple more stars than we would have. Its just the food wasnt all that good. Especially for the cost. Our bill was $106.00 (including tip) for two 12" pizzas, one salad, one fountain drink and one glass of water. We both decided we wouldnt choose to go back....
Read moreWent here on a Thursday right as a Cardinals game was starting so there were not many people in the restaurant. They had a projection tv screen inside and you could also view the game outside on the public viewing screen. My coworker and I were seated right away. Diamond, I believe was her name, was very prompt and super friendly, told us the specials which were toasted ravioli and a couple of other things. I ordered the Polara Chinotto Italian special soda which was a little bitter citrus but was unique, was definitely a sipping drink. I also ordered the Pancetta & Fig Pizza. It reminded me of Italian pizza where the crust is thin but thick enough to hold together. The toppings tasted fresh and went really well together. We also ordered Antipasta: the Meatballs, Fried Squash Blossoms, Eggplant Parmigiano, and Cauliflower. The meatballs were fantastic, definitely hand made. The friend squash blossoms were also unique and definitely worth a try, my coworker said he rarely sees them in a menu and they did not disappoint. The cauliflower was full of flavor but slightly mushy after a little bit because it would sit in a small pool of liquid. The eggplant parmigiano was, unfortunately, the most underwhelming of the dishes. It was chewy, like the Parmesan crusting didn’t cook fully or it got saturated by the eggplant slices juices, if that makes sense. Otherwise, we were full, the atmosphere was really uplifting, felt very modern Italian like. You can also see the pasta being hand made which was also great to see. A little pricey but it is really good food, not your typical bar food...
