Meister's Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Stillwater

Well.... we read all the reviews and that the burgers were Michelin 5 star. And the cash, no credit policy, so we came prepared.

I'm not a snob, really. I love authentic local joints with great service and food. But this was not great on either one.

We entered and grabbed an open booth. Waited 5 minutes, no acknowledgement or server to our table. They looked at us once or twice then went to other tables. Finally I got up and picked up menus at the front and sat back down. The two women waitstaff looked at me again a few times and ignored us! Totally awful.

I was ready to leave but my wife convinced me to go try two seats at the bar. We got up and carried our menus to the bar and finally got service! The bartender was friendly and greeted us. Our food came fast and he was quick to get us some beers (frosty beer glasses were a nice touch).

But the food was really basic. Just bar food, not bad, not outstanding. The cheese curds are a pass for me.

I honestly don't know how they have 4.5 stars. When we entered it looked like a great little bar. We sat at a booth, our server brought the menu and our drinks promptly. Being in a German bar we were disappointed in the lack of German food offered, most especially a basic Reuben sandwich. None of the entrees came with anything, not even chips. A plain cheeseburger, a German burger on a tiny plate. 1/2 pound order of fries was addtl $5, and as God witness, it was NOT 1/2 pound of fries! I mentioned it and she said yep that's half a pound. I get more fries from a large order at McDonald's! I ordered the battered cod meal, gross. It came with a tiny serving of nasty coleslaw, mediocre toast, yes toast, and 4 pieces of fish that looked and tasted like they came out of a Great Value box. Definitely not homemade. For this delicious feast or total came to $55! To add insult to injury, our server walked past us no less than 6 times and never once asked how it was, and we had to flag her down to get the bill. Waitress came over right away and said I'll be right with you and she was and gave us a little time to study the menu and came back we play store order everything went perfectly. I know this bar staff was very friendly too the one we left we heard people saying thank you and come again. We had chicken fingers, a hamburger and deep fried mushrooms and the mushrooms were perfectly done and larger portion then other similar restaurants offer. Just like I remember 40 years ago when I was in college and we ordered them. A bonus was only left, two unique old Volkswagens parked outside.
