I absolutely love Darn Knit Anyway! Itâs always fun to take a trip to Stillwater to see whatâs new. They have a really nice Maker's Lounge now for gathering and crafting together! I havenât been able to squeeze in a weeknight stop for a while but the DKA customer base is about as friendly as the DKA team (meaning VERY friendly!). Everyone at the shop/lounge space likes to help solve knitting problems or share tips and tricks for better spinning, regardless of whether they are actually a DKA team member. Itâs nice to feel so welcome. I like that they have expanded their tools and offerings to include spinning (and fiber prep for spinning) and circular sock machine knitting because itâs nice to have a shop closer than St. Cloud where you can network with other circular sock machine knitters. I really appreciate that Aimee and Carly and the team are fostering a community environment because it can be hard to make new connections as a lot of fiber crafts are typically done at home.
Aimee and Carly and their team have been so kind and supportive and love to hear about project plans and geek out about tools, fiber, notions, bags, and more with you. Their yarn winding service is also pretty speedy if youâre there when the shop isnât packed. If itâs busy they will offer to wind while you step out to shop or eat and let you pick up the wound yarn later on, which I donât usually take advantage of but itâs a great way to accommodate crafters that donât have a swift and winder at home.
DKA has a great selection of their âin-houseâ patterns and the sample knits are lovely. Inspiration galore at their shop! I also love the email newsletters because they are full of funny stories and photos about what is going on around the shop, as well as the more typical shop updates that include new stock/sales/events. They carry a wide variety of yarn, including some lines that I am very happy to be able to see in person around the Twin Cities (Six and Seven Fiber, Wooldreamers, La Bien Aimee, and so much more). Online shopping is also convenient and has flat rate shipping, which is a bonus if you canât make the time to stop but absolutely need that new gorgeous yarn!
Really canât say enough good things about this shop and the people who make the magic happen. I recommend a stop in Stillwater for a visit to Darn Knit and then coffee or lunch nearby. The seasonally-paid parking lot is right next to the shop, and they have recently updated the payment process and fees so that they are more scalable. In the winter, itâs great to have the option to park for free in the lot. If you donât want to pay parking fees and youâre visiting during the tourist season (I think itâs May-October), there is also a lot of public parking on the street if you donât mind walking a...
Read moreWonderful yarn shop in a scenic river town. They are the most friendly and helpful people I have ever met. They will bend over backwards to help you find just what you need. They have lots of store sample sweaters, cowls, hats, you name it all over the store with groups of little hang tags pinned to them so you can tear one off and instantly have the yarn info, pattern name and it's availability on Ravelry, or if it's free they can print one out for you. They have lots of needles and notions and eclectic buttons and shawl pins and handmade project bags (the list goes on and on). But best of all the people that work there love their job and love fiber arts and love to help others follow their passion. (And while they wind all your yarn you can hop next door for a coffee or snack) DON'T PASS THIS SHOP BY WITHOUT...
Read moreI shop for my wife and each time I visit Darn Knit Anyway, I always have a great experience. They have a great selection of yarn and accessories, and the staff is always extremely helpful, providing excellent customer service. For the last visit, I ordered online for an in-store pickup. The online store works flawlessly, and when I went to pickup the order, it was filled accurately, and the goods were packaged in a heavy, clear-plastic, ziplock bag, which was a nice touch.
Amy, the owner, said they are in the process of expanding the store, to provide a comfortable place for customers to work on projects, among other things. She expects the expansion to be completed by April 1, 2022. My wife is definitely looking...
