Midtown Antique Mall — Local services in Stillwater

Wow! It has been ages since I can remember having such an awful experience with a local business.

My family and I were in Stillwater today hoping to find some antique Christmas themed pieces when we wandered into the Midtown Antique Mall. We had just begun browsing when I noticed an odd looking man staring at me. I ignored it and kept browsing but on four separate occasions I caught this person staring me down like I was a wanted criminal. It was at this point when I decided to simply depart the premises.

On my way out I asked to speak to the manager and when I told him about my awful experience he tried turning it around on me and offered a lame excuse as to why I was being followed around. Mind you, we had been to several other antique stores prior to this and at none of them was I made to feel as uncomfortable as I was at Midtown Antique Mall. I will NEVER return to this retailer and I cannot recommend them to anyone unless you happen to meet there very narrow profile of what an acceptable...

The Positive: This store is very large for an antique store, and has several large pieces of furniture as well as a variety of items from many different time periods. A lot of the decor and furniture is very high quality and truly unique.

The Negative: Take this with a grain of salt, since I don't frequent antique stores often, however this place felt like a less organized and waaaaaay over priced Goodwill or other thrift stores. While the furniture was undeniably of much better quality, the rest of it was a mess. Coca-Cola bottles and glasses at over $10 per item, without being in any kind of special quality. Extremely rude … seems very very racist. Don’t spend a dime of your money at this shop as a POC. They Won’t even greet you when you walk inside they will follow you in the store. I watched from the second floor as they greeted every customer but when a black family walked in they were not greeted and the old white woman at the register turned and made a face not realizing I was watching her from the top level while the other employee followed me around. They have a lot of racist materials for sale all over the store in several displays. They have a large picture hanging with a slave on it.
