My friends and I had been wanting to go in for the Thursday special advertised every single week on Facebook - Champagne & $1 Oysters. Today we finally got the chance and I'll definitely not be returning.
The hostess was sweet and attentive. No issues there at all. I made sure to ask if there was a place we were required to sit for the special, she confirmed with the manager that although it's usually 'bar only,' they didn't mind where we set.
Let me say upfront, it was not busy in the least. I arrived at 6:45pm and there were plenty of open tables in the dining areas and bar.
There was a server in training to assist our server and that did absolutely nothing to help the wait times. From the start of the meal, I asked about the special and the server took 5 minutes to go bring me the 'card' he felt we needed..which literally just says '$1 oysters.' Its not like you have a selection of oyster types.
We placed an order for deviled eggs & 3 dozen orders. The deviled eggs are fine, nothing special and you're certainly paying prices based on the type of restaurant they want to be and the type of clientele they want to have, not the quality of food they serve.
Start to finish, it was obvious our server thought we wouldn't tip well because we were getting the special. When we inquired about the wait time on the oysters (it had been at least 25 minutes), the training server and server made it a point to tell us they were 'cutting them by hand.' This isn't our first time getting oysters, we're aware they're going to be shucked. As SOON as they were set on the table, the server said "and I want you to know, thats it, no more. We're totally out of them. I realize it's a special and we shouldn't be, but we are." He told us another table before us ordered 3 dozen thats why they're out. So they're running a weekly special on social media and only have 6 dozen in the restaurant? We didn't buy it in the least.
There are SO MANY great mom & pop restaurants in Cleveland with seafood specials, that don't judge how much you're going to spend/tip based on what you're wearing or that you order the special THEY ADVERTISE. Spend your...
Read moreChris must have been there on an off day because we went there yesterday for the first time and it was AWESOME. The service was impeccable, with two busmen nearby to remove plates when we were finished so no empty plates lingered while we conversed.
We enjoyed the lobster ziti and walleye and both were delicious as we shared. We started off with the "bacon and eggs" (deviled eggs - 6) and they were very good with the very small bits of bacon and just a little spice sprinkled on top vice the paprika that we usually see and enjoy and there was definitely no skimping on the fill for each egg. Different but palatable.
Everything was served quickly and all was hot, fresh and excellent. The drinks were unique, I would suggest a mai tai or daquiri because they came in large drink glasses and not the usual fancy ones and there seemed to be more there for the money.
We split the vanilla creme brulee which was delicious and the largest I've ever received at any other restaurant.
The waitress was attentive, very personable and even though we asked that she repeat one of the specials three times because it was so elaborate, she did it with a smile.
As I write this, I'm still reminiscing over the food and service and though we sat on the outside patio so we didn't see much of the inside, the inside as we walked through was very upscale which made one think they would be paying through the nose. Three full meals one with an extra salad, one appetizer, one dessert and four drinks and the bill was $116. Not bad for 3 people. Not bad at all.
I hope I can get back before I leave, but will definitely return when I get back in December. Going to try one of the many beer selections next time.
One suggestion is to add more pictures of the inside decor, you have GOT to publish that old world look more and not just the front, bar and a burger. Those pics don't do you justice. I figured your establishment was on the order of a...
Read moreIt was our Anniversary and I consider myself middle class. Wife is in school for nursing. I am a factory worker. Why is that relevant I will get to that . We made reservations for 5/13 at 5:30 . The restaurant looks amazing on the outside and the entrance. We were immediately welcomed open entry by the hostess in overalls. Dark overalls so wasn’t exactly sure what was going on because I was under the impression it was a nicer type restaurant. Very friendly staff so does it make that big of a deal? Not really , however worth mentioning. Then we were seated next to the window in the front, went to pull out my wife’s chair and realized we have the same patio furniture at home.... I again was a surprised but I wouldn’t ever mention this to my wife or the staff because at the end of day it’s about the food and my anniversary. So we ordered the calamari for the appetizer and although it was a little rubbery to eat it was good although my wife wished they would have served marinara with it and not just the sauce. I ordered the lobster pasta and it was good. I enjoyed it. My wife ordered the Fillet mignon with potatoes with asparagus. It was also good. She liked it and was filling. The side bread was also very good with my pasta. The wife had a glass of red wine and our waitress was very helpful with the recommendation! We spent including tip about $120.00 . Not sure if I would pay that again for what we had. But it was again good. Not sure if I would return to see if my experience would be better or different. But it’s a good restaurant. Value wise I am not too sure. But that’s where if I was in a different wage bracket maybe I could possibly give it a few other opportunities to change my mind that I payed to sit on patio chairs and was served good food . But not what I was assuming with the reviews I read. But maybe I...
