If youâre looking for the bagel holy grail, Brooklyn Bagels is where your carb pilgrimage ends. These are proper New York style bagels chewy on the inside, with that slight outer crisp that practically winks at you before you take a bite. Theyâre not messing around here.
Brooklyn Bagels is not stingy with the toppings; They donât just spread cream cheese; they architect it. I went with veggie cream cheese, because the dill cream cheese has this odd sweet thing going on. Iâm all for a twist, but dill and dessert shouldnât hang out.
Now, the star of the show in my opinion is the Williamsburg. Itâs not just a bagel sandwich itâs a whole lifestyle. Smoked salmon, tomatoes, red onions, capers, cucumber, and even avocado (surprise!) all piled high on a fresh plain bagel.( I opted for plain, but you can choose any flavor that suits you) Itâs basically a brunch board doing cosplay as a bagel. And it works.
The staff are friendly, fast, and somehow always know exactly how to pronounce your name when they call your order, miraculous. The dining area is clean, inviting, and wonât make you feel weird about sitting alone with three bagels âfor later.â Theyâve got plenty of drink options too, including coffee to make your food coma productive. And for the snackers among us, they also sell chips and their own bagel chips, which are dangerously addictive.
In short, Brooklyn Bagels is what every bagel shop wants to be when it grows up. Quick service, fresh food, and a chill vibe. I highly recommend any bagel lover to try them out, you wonât be...
Read moreTake the following with a grain of salt â I lived in NYC for almost ten years where I consumed A LOT of bagels:
We went for the soft opening and bought three bagels â two bacon, egg & cheese sandwiches on everything bagels ($14.61), then went back for one more bagel â egg bagel with garlic and chive cream cheese ($5.95). Bagels themselves were tasty and airy, but not very dense, which made it easy to want another bagel to eat. Cream cheese and chives spread was more regular cream cheese with hints of garlic and chives, but still good. Bacon, egg & cheese sandwich was also very tasty â good amount of tasty bacon, but very light on the egg â typical bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches have a nice layer of egg in the sandwich to create a beautiful cross section when the sandwich is opened. Four star review because of the lack of egg, airy bagels, and cream cheese with hint of garlic and chives.
A note on the staff â while I love seeing young people (high schoolers) taking the initiative and working jobs, this place really needs one additional, food-handling-experienced adult making the food so that the kids can gain more experience serving. It was obvious that there were inexperienced hands schmearing my bagel (note how much...
Read moreI wanted to love it after hearing good reviews but it's one and done. We ordered blueberry, plain, and two lox bagels to go. Visually, they look good. I was a bit hesitant with the avocado and cucumber but gave it a shot. We were surprised at the sweetness of the lox bagle, not a good surprise. Maybe they used the wrong spread, but it was very sweet, maybe had honey and every now and then felt like mayonnaise. I appreciated the amount of lox, that was a good surprise! In the end, it felt like we were eating a sweet California Roll. The blueberry and plain bagles were good. We ordered a side of honey walnut which we usually like at other places, unfortunately we didn't care for this one. It's a little out of our way, but we would have returned if we enjoyed it. I was hesitant in my review. If there was a 3.5 option, I would go with that, but I am giving them the benefit of a doubt and hope it was just my order. Will I go back- no, it's a bit out of my way and there is a better...
