TL;DR: Food is good. Prices are high but might be justifiable in this economy, service is hit or miss.
Let me start off by saying that the food is quite good. They are definitely better than average for a small town mexican restaurant. I've been a handful of times and I've really liked everything I've gotten so far.
The service is REALLY hit or miss. Sometimes the server takes great care of you, sometimes it's like you don't exist.
The last time I went, my friend and I ordered a cheese dip. We weren't given enough chips to finish the dip, much less touch the salsa (Nit-pick, I know). We had to flag him down to get refills, and he only checked on us once after taking our order. The kitchen seems to be fairly disorganized because I see a lot of tables served one dish at a time instead of all together. On this occasion, I was served, and then I waited for my friend to get his food, which took about 15 minutes. We ate for about 20 minutes. After we had finished, it took an additional 15-20 minutes for the waiter to resurface and get the checks.
This isn't a typical experience here, but it isn't nearly as uncommon as it should be.
Also, with a water, a small cheese dip, and an entree I was out ~$22 pre-tip. I don't think the portion sizes or quality justify the price, but I might have been spoiled by better offerings back home in Athens. There ARE entrees around $10 but most run $12-16. Small cheese...
Read moreOkay my family of 6 ate there today around 2:30-3:00 is when we got there. When we sat down n ordered the drinks it took over 15 mins to get our drinks. We asked for extra bowls for the large cheese dip we ordered along with extra chips n salsa being the size table we had. On top of that it took another 20 mins to get our food order placed and then another 30 mins or so to get our food. Now when our food was coming he only brought half the order out and the other half of food didn't come out until after he gave another table next to us half their order. Then we finally got our other half of order one plate at a time with a 5-10 min wait between plates. It was so ridiculous how our waiter was. The service was so slow and it wasn’t even crowded during the time we were there. That was our first and last time we will ever eat there. This place needs to get it together especially when it comes to waitressing and serving customers in general. I can just imagine how Gordan Ramsey would act or say about this place. I have to honestly say this is the worse place I have ever been in when it comes to service. Being that the service was so slow and disappointing all the way around I did not leave no tip due to the how our...
Read moreI’d definitely give a ZERO if I could. Called at about 1:00 in the afternoon to see if they took reservations because we had a party of 15 for my daughter’s graduation and wanted to be sure they’d have the room for us. The girl on the phone said she had to check with a manager and put us on hold. She returned and said that it was fine per the “manager.” We arrive a few minutes before 7 in the pouring rain and check in. The hostess was extremely rude and told us they didn’t take reservations on the weekends. Then, she wanted us to sign in and wait while she checked with a manager. They were NOT busy. I could see a prepared EMPTY table in the back that would seat us. The manager comes out and tells us , yes we got the call and understood you were coming but we don’t accept reservations so you’ll have to sign in and wait. What was the point in calling and asking about the reservation??? Highly disappointed and will NEVER return. Also, we ended up at Don Julio’s and our server told us that his other party said they had just had the same experience with El Cazador. Hit up el metate or don julios if you...
