I arrived to Georgio’s to attend a small birthday dinner for a friend of mine.
I arrived first before anyone else in my party and was informed the reservation was cancelled twice. The first cancellation was from the restaurant and the second cancellation was from “ someone “. No one in our group canceled the second reservation but the restaurant staff insisted it was canceled by “ someone “. They then said it was alright for us to still eat and that they set up a table just in case.
After all of my party arrived, we ordered mock tails to start off the night. Unfortunately, that is when night got more chaotic for our party. We were informed very shortly after that we had to order our food immediately and “ can’t take pictures “ because we “ wouldn’t have time. Also informed us the bill would have to be on one check and that was non negotiable. We were informed we could not stay long because the owner allegedly wanted to close early.
I also want to note a couple things
I arrived a before the reservation time and the rest of the party. In the whole 20-30 minutes I was there alone waiting for the rest of my group, I was not informed of the early closure or any of the significant details
we were not told in advance we would have to hurry and order food then leave. This was not conveyed to us until after we had all decided to order drinks and the drinks had arrived.
as we were leaving, we noticed a few other customers still being served and enjoying food
the owner, who allegedly is the one responsible for these changes never came out to speak to us or apologize for the inconveniences.
some of us wanted to order some food and drinks to go. I was originally told it was ok to order the cocktail to go and that it’s allowed. I was then told actually it’s not permitted and that it was just a “covid thing “ despite the lockdown being 4 years ago so I don’t see how anyone could possibly have gotten than mixed up. Also, we were initially told we could not order food to go for an individual who was running late.
-Food was decent, but not worth the inconvenience and trouble.
our waitress did try to be kind and seemed apologetic despite having to rush us out. Was kind enough to give the birthday girl a creme brûlée
Overall, the experience was not a good one. Did not even get to see a dessert menu or feel comfortable to eat our dinners at the restaurant. To be frank, it was a very unwelcoming...
Read moreSo many reviews on how good the food was but I can't comment on that since WE NEVER GOT OUR FOOD! We made reservations there for 6pm because it was right next to the Valentine's theater and we were going to an 8pm show. We went early though cause we also had tickets to the sponsors party prior to the show. Right from the start our waitress was terrible. For example someone at our table ordered a drink and it was so long before she got it we all forgot that she ordered it! We finally had to wave her over to take our order making sure to explain that my friend's daughter was in the show and we had to be there early. We started to ask about our food 45 minutes after we ordered. Oh and in the meantime getting drinks or pate refills were nonexistent even when we asked multiple times. The waitress told us it was getting plated. Finally at 7:30 my friend spotted the owner and told him that we had been there since 6 still no food. At 7:45 he came back and said that the waitress never put our order in!!!!!!!!! He said that he could serve us chicken fettuccini right then cause it was fast. First of all that was not what I was there for and second of all the show was starting in 15 minutes! He said that he would make our order and we could pick it up after the show. Seriously?!?! And that was it. That was his only offer after having us sit in his restaurant for an hour and 45 minutes with no food. There was no offer of please come back another day and your meal will be free or even 50% off. I ordered the steak and who wants steak reheated the next day?!? The offer should have been for us to come back to a fresh meal. I get that it was busy due to a show but this is an upscale restaurant right next to the theater. It's not like the theater crowd was a surprise. And I ask you, would you want to walk in the snow at 11pm (that's when the show got out), pick up your food that you ordered at 6:20pm, then eat reheated steak?!? So my review boils down to TERRIBLE service, TERRIBLE offer of how to rectify that service, pate and bread was good, but no clue on the rest of the food. Never going there again. There are plenty of nice places downtown now so no...
Read moreWe went to Georgios for the first time ever and will probably not be back. It seems to want to be a fine dining restaurant, but the quality of the meal just doesn't live up to its high price. Everything seems dated and even the clientele seemed tk be quite dated as well.
The cup of French onion soup was Itty bitty and didn't taste that great, especially for 15 dollars. The lobster bisque while tasting ok, had only two miniscule pieces of lobster in it, and the rest was flavored water.
Even the bread they give is not warm, is very dense, and has no flavor. It's like they didn't even use salt to flavor it before the dough rose.
My 12 Oz steak was cooked ok but the amount of fat I had to cut off was overly ridiculous for the price. My wife got the Mahi Mahi, which was overcooked and dry, and the worst offending item was the Beef Torneador (or whatever it was named). About two hours after my brother ate it, he was throwing up and said it felt like his intestines were being ripped out. We were told that it was more than likely food poisoning, and that was the only thing he had different from us.
The food wasn't the only issue. While our waiter was nice, it's hard to think of a place as upscale and worth the prices Georgios is trying to charge when your waiter has a shirt with visible holes in it.
Even if he didn't get food poisoning, the rest of the issues just make us never want to return. It's dated, too expensive for what they are doing, and just makes for a pretty bad experience. I don't mind spending money for good food and a good experience, unfortunately you won't find either...
