. 2nd visit and just underwhelming. Bartender is nice but he’s doing double duty taking table orders , which takes him away from the customers at the bar and additional sales for the restaurant-no doubt he works very hard but I cut my visit short for this very reason.this is a management issue. Management decides to have one less server and give the bartender tables so they can make tips but Bar customers do not get the service they pay for, especially single diners at the bar . Please read all the way as I have edited this review upon our 3rd visit
Had fried calamari - all rings on the larger size tender and breaded but not the local famous Northeast species, which is famous for a reason. It was good, not great . Skip the aioli it’s unnecessary .
The crab cake advertised as Lump was in fact Not Lump - certainly not the Maryland variety implied by “lump crabmeat” definitely a claw meat or different species- I should have asked - I didn’t , my bad .The crab cake, a little over browned and in my opinion overpriced was again underwhelming -simplify the dish without the balsamic add some micro greens or other fun accoutrements and use actual lump Crab or don’t claim that it’s lump. At $16 for one crab cake I expect top notch Lump ,if not Jumbo lump Crabmeat.
Not sure about a return trip.well we decided to come back one more time..something about this place makes me think they could hit the mark with another visit and perhaps different staffing .
So My wife and I decided to return on a beautiful Friday afternoon for a late lunch / early dinner around 3:30-4 pm. Greeted by hostess immediately upon entry , a great sign for any restaurant, and we were seated outside, as requested . Glass of Sancerre reserve and a well chilled Modelo to lead off, with a chilled glass offered .
Ordered the paella ,which is a bit pricey but we were on staycation and treating ourselves . I also ordered the fish and chips .Let me preface this by saying I have been searching far and wide in this Harborfront village for a decent, crisp , Cod fish and chips. This quest has failed until this visit to Nantuckets.
Firstly , the paella was very well seasoned and could easily be the best around but for a poorly cleaned shrimp or two in the mix . Overall an outstanding dish that could be shared if ordering appetizer(s). On to the fish and chips- 3 pieces of FRESH cod (not hake, not pollock, not frozen pre-made product like other places in town) but fresh, white , glistening mild Codfish. My first piece was a little soggy, I let the waitress know (she asked) and much to my surprise she appeared with more crispier fish and chips moments later. The chips are seasoned fries ,cooked in clean oil , and malt vinegar was served upon asking- a must have with fish and chips but other places didn't get this memo. So overall , this restaurant has the best fish and chips in the area! I have tried them all in this sordid ,self torture quest to find a great fish and chips. Kudos to the waitress noticing that my fist filets were not crispy enough to make the restaurant’s mark and delivering me the crispy delicate replacements. Thanks to the kitchen for offering to make it right.
Overall we were very happy with our meals and I have upgraded my overall reviews to 4 stars . While there is room for improvement in some small details Nantucket’s has now redeemed themselves in my opinion. Customers spending $100+ per couple want the real deal in seafood and this place is capable of delivering it . Work out the small details and Ill bring the 5...
Read moreI went here this evening for the first time. I attended a 3 course sit down dinner event with psychic Dawn Joly. The cost of this dinner was $65 cash only. Now, Dawn was wonderful and very compassionate so to her I give a five star review all the way. But as far as the restaurant goes, unfortunately I cannot say the same. The ambience was nice enough and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating. My issues were with the food and cost. To start with, we were offered a choice of tap water or sparkling water. We chose sparkling. Being that this is Long Island, I never ever ingest the tap water. We, of course, chose sparkling. The first course was a choice of Lobster bisque or salad. As I detest seafood, I chose the salad, which consisted of what I can only call leaves of some sort, stems firmly attached, exactly 2 mandarin orange slices, a few chunks of beets, I believe, 3 tiny pieces of goat cheese and 4 sugar roasted pecans, all with no dressing on the salad nor offered. For the main course, I chose the French style chicken, mashed potatoes and sauteed zucchini and squash. The chicken was still pink and the sauteed veggies were soggy and tasteless. The mashed potatoes were very good, though. Dessert was a small, cake shaped brownie, topped with vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was good, but the brownie was hard. Not once were we offered the choice of a soft drink or coffee/tea with our meal. When we finished the main course, we asked for a coffee/ tea with our dessert, as they never bothered to ask. At the end of the evening, when the bill was presented, I was SHOCKED, to say the least, to see that we were charged $7.00 for the water! And another $3.75 each for the coffee/tea! Now, i know that in the scheme of things, this is not a huge amount, but my point is, if I booked a 3 full course sit down dinner for $65, (cash only) should I have not been entitled to AT LEAST water and a cup off coffee???? So, this "meal" was DEFINITELY NOT worth what I...
Read moreWe went here for New Year's Eve last minute since our expected plans were cancelled. The restaurant was only partially full and we arrived in the early eve so there was no crowd of people... The BAD News: The service was terrible, they were understaffed, and the wait staff seemed inexperienced and unable to follow my daughter's dietary restrictions of gluten free. Three bowls of lobster bisque were ordered at our table and they came out in 3 different size bowls with 3 different size portions. Everyone ordered the steak & lobster, except some ordered the steak well done and others rare or medium.... ALL steaks came out the same... less than Rare! The one who ordered well done sent it back to be cooked correctly... everyone else took a bite or 2 and brought the rest home to cook on our own and eat as "left overs." Appetizers were not brought out at the same time... 2 plates out of 5 were missing the butter to go with the lobster. We asked a dozen+ times for butter and lemon. At the end we were charged for 5 coffees instead of 4, a HUGE tip of approx 25% was added to our bill prior to the subtotal so the tip was TAXED!!! Beware, that's not allowed!!! And it listed recommended gratuity on the bottom of the bill in addition to the already added tip. I sent the bill back and asked them to remove the tip. We weren't a group of 6 or more so tip shouldn't have been added. They made numerous corrections before we got the correct bill. The worst part of this expensive evening was that my daughter was ill all night most likely from the gravy on the steak which must have had flour in it since she's allergic to gluten (the manager claimed their was no flour in the gravy). I called the manager to discuss this situation and he was not interested in listening to me. The evening was a comedy of errors, mediocre food, and poor service. 😕 We are from the Port Jeff area and won't be returning here...
