My visit to Montauk Market left me utterly disappointed and frustrated. I ordered their 'avocado toast,' only to discover an egg on top, triggering my severe allergy. When I returned to have it remade, I was appalled to find a clerk carrying a dog in the kitchen—an unacceptable practice for food safety.
Despite explaining my allergy and discomfort with their handling of pets near food preparation areas, the clerk adamantly refused a refund, insisting I should have known about the egg. This refusal was coupled with an attempt to charge me for hot water, a basic service I expected to complement my purchased tea.
The confrontational attitude and the disregard for customer safety and satisfaction were unsettling. As a person of color, I couldn't shake the feeling that prejudice may have influenced their treatment.
