Went to Nomiya for dinner. Decor looks great. Ambiance is nice. Restaurant is modern and sleek. Wait staff is new, might have been their first day (Did not know menu). For starters we had spicy edamame, rock shrimp tempura and yellowtail jalapeño. Edamame was regular edamame with spicy seasoning(4/5), Shrimp tempura was nicely cooked and tossed in a nice sauce (4/5), Yellow tail jalapeño was great, fish was nicely prepared(5/5). Next was the entrees, this where the meal took a turn in the wrong direction. We had the chicken teriyaki first, chicken lacked seasoning and was only tossed in teriyaki sauce. Tasted very plain(2/5). To finish our dinner we had the Nomiya roll it being their signature roll and all. It came out wrapped in foil and lit on fire. Nice presentation however once un wrapped and served the roll was burnt along with the sauce that was on top of roll. Although the fire added to the presentation in ruined the whole roll. The roll then tasted smoky and burnt hiding all the great fish they had put in roll. Nomiya roll (1/5). All and all the Nomiya is a nice restaurant and they definitely have great fish. I just wouldn’t order anything with ‘dragons breath’ otherwise your sushi might taste burnt. Maybe with wait staff gaining more knowledge on menu and chefs preparing dishes in a way where food isn’t burnt Nomiya can be a better...

My wife brought me to this restaurant after a long day of shopping. Since it was near the mall, I would think the food would be more casual. I was wrong. After entering into the restaurant, the decor makes it feel like an upscaled sushi restaurant. This gave me excitement as I've been craving higher quality sushi. So I expected prices to be higher. I sat down and scanned through the menu, and to my surprise... the prices are equal or worse than other fine dining omakase that I've been to in Manhattan. This raised my eyebrows.. We normally do a decent amount of research before dropping a few hundred on an omakase/fine dining experience. I did a quick Google search to look at the reviews and photos. You can tell right away from the photos of the omakase, and rolls are low tier. The restaurant just has an upscale look but serves awfully basic looking sushi. I've also read the owner responses to some negative reviews.. he seems like a very nasty person.

I highly recommend you skip this spot and save your money. The 4 to 5 stars reviews are from customers who are inexperienced with high-end sushi. This restaurant is definitely trying to cater to a certain type of demographic. It was fairly empty with only 3 tables seated during the Sunday dinner hours. I simply walked out and went across the street to ocean code and had a very great dining...

My family is a huge fan of sushi so we decided to come here, and it was the best experience! For people who don't like sushi, there were other options avaliable, including vegetarian options. The food delivered VERY quickly and under 15 minutes which is great for people who don't like to wait so long for food. Considering how fast the food arrived, it was amazing! The spices were perfectly balanced out and it didn't seem too sweet. This is by-far the best sushi restaurant I've been in, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves sushi. There was spicy sauces and the food was very flavorful. I recommend this place to people who are able to handle some spice because most of the dips given is very spicy, expessically the dip named "hot oil". Other than sushi, the fried rice was amazing, we requested them to add egg in the rice and it was very, very good and the flavor was perfectly balanced. The dumplings were also amazing and paired with the dip given (which had some spice) and so good we devoured it under a minute. For the utensils they gave chopsticks, however they will give you a fork upon request. This restaurant is perfect for family gatherings or even casual or formal outings. So yes, I definitely recommend this restaurant. The food was amazing and the prices were understandable. The price was totally worth the food that...

September 2024 update: I have to drop this place from a 5 to a 2. Absolutely no longer worth it. This place has changed a lot since it opened. What was once a premium experience: great service, great food, expansive wine and sake menus-have all suffered immensely. Nomiya used to have this ridiculously fresh otoro. The chef would come out and explain the cuts to you when you ordered the tasting platters. The rolls tasted like the rice was just cooked and anything you ordered with a crunch or a crisp was legit. Now? Hokkaido scallops come out frozen. The crunch in a spicy tuna roll is soggy. The karage is tasteless. The servers and bartenders that used to be attentive and offer suggestions and initiate conversations when they were bored are gone, replaced by a bunch that just talk about how they fumbled “the cute girl at table 23” in the corner or argue about their PS5. They seem to have killed the wine and sake menu too, so if you want to order something that’s not a house sake you’ll not get a name or a real description short of “we have a good one but it’s expensive.” Probably the worst part of this is the sushi doesn’t have that fresh taste anymore, you’d get better flavor and cuts at the conveyor belt sushi across the street. I’ll pour one out for these guys, but it won’t be the $25 pour of Toki.

My fiancé and I were restaurant hopping; decided to have a fat day together in small portions ❤️. The happy hour sign captured our attention. When you walk in, it's like ending the secret garden. There's a beautiful bar to the left of entry, clean and 'cute' bathrooms to the right (and dining room we did not see). Also to the left are small tables an entrance you can enter from outside (as well as tables for outdoor dining). The waitress was cordial and processed our food and tea in a timely manner. I loveeee the tea pots. Everything was delightful and delicious. My only complaint is borderline; it could go either way-- it was that we received a little too much attention as if we were being watched, but perhaps, it was just good service, who knows. My fiancé and I left and went across to Morini, which is also a delicious choice with great ambiance. We'll dine at Nomiya again--quite possible.
