HeeMee Coffee + Bakery — Restaurant in Tucson

I had high expectations for this charming café in Downtown. I'd passed by a few times, and its appearance, coupled with great reviews, made me eager to visit. However, my experience left me greatly disappointed. Upon entering, there was an unpleasant smell that instantly put me off. The overflowing trash bins only added to the negative first impression. We ordered a matcha latte and a matcha americano. By the name, we thought a matcha americano was more of a matcha/coffee drink but after asking we got a confusing answer. Despite the name, it was more of a matcha with water, which was not what we had expected. We decided to stick around for a bit, but the smell and the overall atmosphere made us leave early. The tables weren't clean, and the whole experience just didn't feel inviting. To top it off, the matcha gave us stomachaches afterward. Unfortunately, it wasn't the café I had hoped for. I ducked into HeeMee Coffee on my way out of Tucson—“just a quick caffeine stop,” I told myself. Famous last words. This downtown café-bakery with a Korean twist turned a pit stop into a full-on crush.

First sip: the Iced Cookie Butter Coffee. Think velvety, cinnamon-kissed nostalgia without the sugar bomb—balanced, creamy, and wildly aromatic. It’s dessert energy with specialty-coffee discipline. Then came the Dubai Chocolate. Wow. Deep, dark, and silk-smooth with a whisper of spice and perfume—like hot cocoa that studied abroad and came back enlightened. Both drinks were dialed-in and presentation-pretty, the kind of cups you photograph first and finish fast.

The space has that “stay awhile” hum—bright, modern, and warmed by the glow of the pastry case. You’ll spot Korean-leaning bakes and a small kitchen turning out food that makes you wish you weren’t on a schedule. This place has so much potential. It could be awesome. The coffee was pretty good and the barista really did a great job . However the young lady in the front didn't seem to want to be there and did not even acknowledge our presence for a good 5 min. A t that point she told us she'd be with in a few min. Fast forward about 5 additional minutes when we are ordering the young lady in the front seems like she knew absolutely zero of my questions regarding the pastries. After we received the coffees we waited an additional 10 min. For our pastries to be packed up which left my eyes to wander. There were boxes everywhere around the sides of the bar . I seemed like an OCD persons nightmare. Very disorganized, but then I may have tried this place on a delivery day .who knows . The pastries were fantastic and like I said the barista was exceptional.
