I am compelled to write to you to highlight the truly shocking and traumatic experience I had whilst staying at the Hyatt Virginia Beach over this past weekend starting 30 September. Shocking and traumatic because it could quite easily have resulted in my being seriously injured or worse still killed. Arriving at the Hotel as hurricane Ian was battering Virginia Beach, I was directed and forced by your Hotel staff to park my car in a parking lot away from the hotel, despite the obvious danger that the storm presented. I am a slightly built woman who weighs barely 100 lbs., so having parked my vehicle, the task of returning to the Hotel in the most violent, hurricane force winds and driving rain was terrifying. In desperation I tried to cling on to whatever street side fixings I could grasp yet found myself blown over into the road. The thought of what would have happened if there had been a vehicle passing at that moment is something that continues to play on my mind. And not one member of your staff was prepared to recognize how serious the conditions were or to attempt in any way to assist. My partner who was in the lobby was desperately trying to get someone to help but to no avail. No single member of our staff was prepared to react or to take responsibility in what was clearly a very serious situation. What is more when I eventually did manage to get into the hotel, clearly very distressed, bruised and completely wet through, the staff continued to show very little concern. I am sure that you will understand that if I had been more seriously injured or worse still killed, the Hotel would have been without question held responsible and you would now be dealing with the most serious of consequences. It is still beyond me why your staff were prepared to be so dismissive of the safety of one of their guests. Why for example could I have not left my vehicle under the awning at the front of the Hotel until the storm passed ? Simple common sense, surely. If the trauma of that experience was not enough the service that we experienced throughout the weekend, with the exception of the restaurant where the staff were excellent, was simply appalling. You can be sure I will not be staying at this Hotel again, and furthermore I am unlikely to choose any Hyatt in the future. As a Marriott Platinum Life Member you will know that I am a frequent traveler and to this point a very loyal customer, but unfortunately this experience has really damaged my perception of your Hotels and raised serious questions about your approach when it comes to the safety and comfort of your guests. To add insult to injury, the hotel charged me $20 per day for parking! And when I expressed my discontent to the manager upon check out, she faked concern and asked: “is there anything I can do?” My quick “I don’t know, what can you do?” was followed by silence. On top of gross negligence, I was met with...
Read moreI was there for the first time for a conference this weekend and was very impressed. I enjoyed the conference room that we were in because of all the natural light from the beautiful windows that didn't make us feel like we were hidden away in a dungeon.
Every staff member I interacted with was super friendly and attentive. Everything was very clean and appealing. I cannot vouch for staying in the rooms, but the pool area looked wonderful as did the restaurant and bar area. They had huge Windows overlooking the ocean with lots of natural light coming in to the room. It was all very fresh, clean and modern looking.
They also offer valet parking which was very nice. When I needed to back my car out because of other cars in front of me still parked, the young man doing my valet parking went into the street to check for traffic and even stoppef people from driving for a moment to allow me to freely exit. When I didn't have cash on me for a tip, they were very quick to tell me no problem please don't worry about that at all in a way that was very sincere. Not once did they do that awkward pause where I felt that they expected to tip and that was actually very refreshing even though it is always my honor to tip for good service. They clearly hired good people and did good training because I felt very taken care of and I was the priority; it wasn't just them doing their job. They were prompt, courteous, even beyond courteous they were friendly, professional and helpful. They were hustling to take care of their guests and make everything as easy as possible coming and going. That is not something you see all the time these days. I actually hope somebody for management reads this because I would love to specifically write a letter letting them know how impressed I was with each of the men that help me valet park over this last weekend. I was also very happy with every interaction I had with front desk. As added security you have to have your key card to ride the elevator up and as soon as they saw me coming one of them would quickly walk with me to the elevator so that I didn't have to wait to get up to the conference. I appreciate it how quickly they helped me the first time and that when they saw me returning they remembered me and helped me up. Again, amazing customer service that made me feel important to them and made my life easier. The location is great for enjoying the oceanfront and the boardwalk. I actually look forward to the opportunity to stay at the beach because I would certainly love to try out this hotel hotel for an overnight or weekend based on what I've seen and from the attendee and I would absolutely recommend them for any small conference...

Upon arrival you can stop to check in and upload your bags in front of the hotel. Afterward though, you will have to park at the garage around the corner…on the 6th, 7th or 8th floors. Driving up to those levels and back down both take some time was, understandably, you have to drive slow. If you plan on using your car a lot…this could become a bit of a pain. You use the hotel room card key to enter and exit the garage. We did have an issue toward the end of our stay where the room card stopped working so we needed to have it reprogrammed.
We got a room with a balcony on the 2nd floor facing the beach…the views were perfect. It had everything we needed for a longer stay including a working stovetop, microwave, mini fridge, plates, glasses and utensils. Everything including the pull-out sofabed was clean. They even provided bed sheets and comforter for the sofabed. The only issue was that the patio furniture was a little beat up…cigarette burns in both patio lounge chairs.
Location is perfect, right on the beach close to many attractions. Having the convenience, at any time of day, to walk right onto the beach was great. There are usually people on the beachwalk area from sunrise (6am-ish) until the mid-evening (9-10pm) and at no time did we ever feel unsafe.
At this time, they are serving boxes breakfasts that you can pick up in the morning. No communal breakfasts likely to COVID.
The fitness center was enough to get a quick workout in. The pool seemed nice, but we did NOT use it. Ice machines on every other floor. The two elevators were quick and adequate. Cleaning service/towel exchange only available upon request.
Although this is a pet-friendly hotel, we did not hear any barking while in our room or throughout the night. I would notice them in the lobby, but not much after. I think they may put all the guests with pets on designated floors, as to not to disturb the non-pet guests in case they start to bark, or for allergy purposes.
Few issues: we quickly discovered our room had a leaking iron. After a call downstairs, the staff took about 30 minutes to find a working one and bring it to us…not a big deal. Also, when we first checked in…we couldn’t connect to wifi and were told they were having an issue with wifi throughout the building. Wifi was restored the following day.
All staff we encountered were very helpful and efficient.
I would highly recommend staying at this hotel while in...
