Holiday Inn Express & Suites VA Beach Oceanfront by IHG — Hotel in Virginia Beach

We stayed here for a long weekend with our granddaughter. The location was good, right on the Va Beach Oceanfront. We chose this hotel because of our good experience with other HIE hotels in the past. Our expectation was HIE’s usual brand consistency in their hotels. We booked a king suite on the 9th floor. The room was nice and spacious. There is a bedroom with a king bed and TV. Separate living room with foldout couch that our granddaughter slept on. ||Our first issue was a lack of hot water throughout our stay. We noticed no hot water the first evening when getting ready for bed, and reported it first thing in the morning. We were told that they were aware of issues and working on it. Came in midafternoon from the beach to grab some more drinks from the fridge and checked again, still no hot water. I reported it on the way back out to the beach and a different customer service employee seemed surprised and said they would look at it. After a long day on the beach, we came in to shower and get ready to go out for dinner, and still no hot water. After waiting 15 mins, it finally heated up to barely lukewarm enough to get in and get the sand out of our hair, but not the satisfying warm shower you look forward to at the end of a beach day, the last morning, the water was back to cold again, never heated up enough for a shower. We reported for the 3rd time at checkout, All we got was a “sorry,” and acknowledgment that it had apparently been a known issue, and that they were “working on it.” ||Our other issue with this property was just general lack of cleanliness and basic maintenance throughout. The indoor pool was disgusting. There was hair all over the pool deck and in the pool. The tile edges had so much mold that people had written their initials in the grime. Our toilet often didn’t flush, had to open the tank and jiggle the part to get the tank to fill with water. We overheard the people at the table next to us at breakfast talking about the same problem in their room. Our room was ok upon checking, but was not cleaned the next day, beds not made. Just fresh towels left and trash emptied. Coffee for the keurig was replenished, but annoyingly, there was only decaf and tea upon checking and after room serviced.||Overall. I can’t recommend this particular hotel. There are 100 other comparable hotel brands represented on Virginia Beach Oceanfront - Hilton, Marriott, Courtyard all right in the same few blocks. I would do my research and choose another...

I made my reservations at this Holiday Inn directly through the IHG website. I arrived at the hotel and was immediately greeted by and recognized as a rewards Member by a very nice and efficient desk clerk who made me feel welcome. Check-in was quick and hassle free and I was in my room in short order. The Room was very clean, spacious and very well attended. The bed was well made and very comfortable. I really like the large pillows that so many hotels have gotten away from. The bathroom was well stocked with Dove toiletries and featured a nice walk-in Shower, (no tub) The Wi-Fi was strong and worked well throughout my three-night stay. Each room features a small balcony that allows you to enjoy the ocean views from the privacy of your room. The breakfast area was rather large and featured adequate seating allowing guests to enjoy breakfast without being crowded. The breakfast area also featured a great view of the Beach and Ocean. Breakfast features the usual eggs, meat, potatoes, gravy, along with cereal, pastries, coffee and juice. It also features the very popular pancake roller and the signature hot cinnamon rolls. The breakfast attendants did an excellent job of keeping the area clean and well stocked throughout the advertised hours. The housekeeping staff were great and very accommodating, working around our schedule. The onsite parking lot is rather small but there is free adequate parking located just a short walk away. All parking lots require a pass that you MUST display from your rear-view mirror at all times while on site. This hotel is located right on the Boardwalk with easy access to the beach. There are a number of restaurants located within easy walking distance. Overall, the staff of this hotel is very polite, professional, and invested in seeing that their guests have an enjoyable stay.
