We stayed for 2 nights in the first of August for a family vacation. Overall, I'm going to give a 4.5 rating, even though google won't let me do half stars.
Overview: We arrived late on a Friday and the front desk looks to do everything very old school. Paper cards, paper registry, etc. Nothing wrong with that because everything was accounted for and logged. Throughout the stay, we spent most of the time at the beach and on the boardwalk, but the staff was all VERY friendly and accommodating. The rooms are a little old school and the bed wasn't the most comfortable, but nothing is like sleeping in your own bed. Honestly, if you're coming to Virginia Beach and you're spending more time in your room than outside, either it's bad weather or you're doing it wrong.
Pros: Very close to the beach. All the rooms have balconies that overlook the ocean, which is amazing. A little fridge by the elevator with free water. What a life saver! Where everywhere else is charging $5 for a bottle of water, a little generosity like this goes a very long way! The staff was super helpful. at one point, our kids jumped into the beds with sand still all over them and we were able to get the staff to do a refresh on the sheets. There's a little side door that leads out to the alleyway and even closer to the beach. The building is attached to a coffee shop called VLOVE. It's a little expensive (what isn't...), but it was nice to have a short walk for coffee.
Neutral: We didn't use the pool or hot tub, so I can't comment on that. Rooms were very basic. A small tv, two queens and some random furniture for your use. Again, if you are coming to stay in your room the entire time, you're coming for all the wrong reasons.
Cons: Context: My family doesn't use harsh chemicals to clean. The cleaning solution that the staff used was very strong and a little overwhelming on the first day. Beds were a little uncomfortable, so sleeping was rough for my wife.
Overall, I'd happily return to the Seahawk. In a world ran by big national chains, such as their neighbors on the right and left, it's amazing to see a little hotel doing so well and holding their own. Having it family ran is also a nice perk. I'd absolutely suggest this place to anyone looking for a hotel...
Read moreThe location was great, the staff very pleasant but desk staff, I guess owners not that nice. Arrived Thursday and was told the elevator was out. I asked how long the guy said a day, I asked did he know when it was going to be repaired he said I don't know but I could leave and go someplace else. Which was an unnecessary comment. When we were bringing in our bags I asked staff and he said it been out 4 days! Big difference from 1 day. The next day I went to ask for directions and there were 3 young men checking in,I overheard the lady tell them she would give them a discount because the elevator was out. When I went to desk, I asked her would I get a discount for the elevator being out, she got nasty and said, if you want to leave you can, that I didn't get a discount because I was only on the 3rd floor and that shouldn't be a problem to take the stairs! I said its alot steps when your knee is bad, she said well check out. She went ahead and said she would give me a discount for 2 nights although I have a 4 day stay. Well it was better than nothing. I felt they only kept saying I could leave because they know its memorial day weekend and all the hotels are booked. The front staff was just rude, idk but any questions I had to ask I was given a snappy response. But my vacation is over tomorrow and we leave in the morning. Like I said all other staff was extremely nice and professional it was just the staff at front desk. They need to have better customer service, 1st visit to Virginia Beach but next visit i will do just what they kept saying, I'm going to give some other...
Read moreBefore we begin let's understand this hotel was built in the 60s. We read and heard people complain about bugs but saw nothing our entire visit. " run down" is a stretch, the place is old but well Kempt. The staff was very accommodating, even fedex'd a crib over night for us. The pool was clean and serviced daily, other than a few guests who disregarded the showering before entering ( there's a rinse station) the rooms are clean, a bit tight, but suitable for their perpose. The walls were pretty quiet other than the bathroom. The halls are a bit stuffy and they have an old school elevator that's slow and isn't very big, with that said we are on the 5th floor with our 11 year old and 8 month old... a few stairs never scared us. The view of the beach is great, the coffee shop down below is fantastic. The beds felt firm but we're actually very comfy, water pressure and temperature were never an issue. Parking can be a bit tight, if you drive a full size truck like me I'd advise parking in the lot across the street as there is no turn around if the lot by check in is full. For the money we would definitely return, the "heated" pool was definitely our...
