To start I think I should mention that I don’t like seafood…I never have. This place is very much a seafood restaurant with only 2 meals that did not include seafood. I know what you’re thinking…why did you go to a seafood restaurant if you don’t like seafood? Well my wife and my MIL love seafood so that’s where they chose. Cozy place like an old house, I loved the decor and feeling inside. It was on the warm side temp wise and the sound echos…the bar had a rowdy group so it was quite loud inside. I’ll say now before I forget the service was awesome…couldn’t have been better. Waitress was attentive, patient, answered any questions, smiled and was happy to help. Couldn’t ask for better service. We got the goat cheese appetizer which was flavorful but a very small portion of goat cheese From what I was told the seafood dishes were all excellent. My wife loved her Mahi meal and her she crab soup. So if you like seafood…this is the place. . So for me and my non seafood eating daughter…it was just eh. They don’t offer a lot for kids…my daughter settled on their 4 cheese flatbread which is similar to a pizza. It looks very good but my daughter did not like it and after I tried a piece I can see why. The sauce tasted like tomato paste, just straight tomato paste. Disappointing for how good it looked! I got the tenderloin steak. It was cooked well but was kind of bland. I definitely could not taste any of the red wine reduction, no seasoning. The potatoes were much of the same, tasted like boiled potatoes with not much seasoning or flavor. For the price I was pretty disappointed with it…but like I said…it’s a seafood restaurant so I can’t expect too much. Would it kill them to throw a burger on the menu? Anyways…the desserts were also very good. I especially liked the brownie with vanilla ice cream on top. Overall I would recommend this place…if you...
Read moreIt was ok... to be honest we've been underwhelmed with most of the food selections in VB.
We didn't see the parking behind the restaraunt, so we had to park accross the street and pay 17 dollars to park... I'm not docking their rating due to that, but it would be nice to have more clarity with parking so that people don't do what we did.
Me and my wife got the she Crab soup to start. It was delicious, I loved it. I wish there was a little more Crab, but were splitting hairs here.
My wife got the Crab cake dinner...she said it was good, not fantastic, but good.
I got the catfish Po' boy... not good. The catfish breading was mushy and flavorless, no seasoning at all, no crunch at all. There was literally 4 Shredded pieces of cabbage on the whole sandwich and almost zero aioli. Needed to ask the server for some more. The chips that came with it, were random chips from a bag...they were UTZ the Crab chip chips. Just broken chips all over the plate.
We got the whiskey bread pudding with ice cream for dessert. Star of the show for me. The ice cream was a little freezer burnt, but the flavor was great.
All in all it gets 3 stars. The server was fantastic. She killed it. Very kind, polite, attentive. The meal did take a long time, from start to finish was almost 2 hours...since they weren't too busy you'd expect a little faster. The soup and dessert were great, the Crab cakes were decent, the catfish po boy was a big big miss. The ambience is ok, wish we could've sat inside but we weren't given that option. The price was...
Read moreWe were staying a few blocks away and I was excited to go to a nice seafood restaurant. This place was highly rated and was within close walking distance for me an my girlfriend. Place was packed which is usually a good sign, so we didn't mind too much having to wait over an hour to get a table....even at around 9pm. We went to the bar and got a 1/2 pound of steamed shrimp and some bread that were very good. When we finally got seated service was slow......we got a couple of drinks. My beer finally arrived....but looked like it had been sitting at the bar for 5 minutes... But eventually we were able to order and got the flounder stuffed with shrimp and crabmeat and the scallops in puff pastry. A half an hour when our food finally arrived, one entree's potatoes were ice cold. Both entrees were barely edible. Flounder tasted really fishy and the scallop meal looked like something someone barely took the time to slap together. After waiting almost 2 hours for something to eat, we basically didn't touch our food (they took both entrees off our check). We went around the corner and got some oysters, soup, and a salad at the Abbey Road, which was barely a block away. Everything was great there!
It was later in the evening on a busy Saturday night, but don't know if we'll ever give Tautogs another chance as no one there seemed very concerned we had a bad experience. The waiter didn't even blink in taking the meals off our check.....no manager or a...
