I have no reservations or hesitation in saying that everything about Remton blew me away and thoroughly impressed me. I have quite a few reviews to write but I put them all on hold to write this one for Remton while the memory is fresh.
Let’s start with the ambiance. Remton is beautifully decorated with a vibrant springtime vibe. I can tell a lot of hard work and planning went into the design. The tables, chairs and booths all look very new. The bar looks amazing and is well stocked. Remton gives off a high end aura. The restaurant is so clean and spacious.
Next, the service was incredible and matched the high end energy of the restaurant. When I walked in, the manager approached me and offered seating. I asked him a few questions and soon we were discussing various Vietnamese dishes and cuisine. He was very polite and knowledgeable, showing me around the restaurant a bit and recommending some dishes. I was thoroughly impressed with his professionalism and hospitality, as well as his passion for customer service.
I was not super hungry, so I ordered smaller dishes to try a variety. First I ordered the Bánh Bột Chiên (Vietnamese Fried Rice Flower Cake). Wow!!! This bánh bột chiên was extraordinary! As I was eating it, the owner Tracy stopped by the table and I let her know that this was a fantastic version of this dish. The rice cake/ egg mixture topped with stir fried radish, pickled carrot, green onion and cilantro was so good. The sweet and sour soy sauce took it to another level! I’ll go ahead and say it now. This is the best bánh bột chiên I’ve had in the Houston area, including Bellaire. This is a recipe straight from southern Vietnam. Compliments to the chef! I will be back for this alone.
The crispy tofu was delicious! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was hot and covered in the tasty peanut sauce it was a great dish.
The Spicy Pork Wontons tasted great! The Custard Buns were delicious. The custard filling was so creamy and not too sweet.
The Pinky Promise and House Sangria from the bar were just right and very refreshing. I also ordered a Matcha Espresso Latte drink to go and it was very good with a strong matcha flavor to go along with the espresso.
The menu here is vast and incorporates global flavors and cuisines along with authentic Vietnamese recipes. The owner/chef must be well travelled and knowledgeable about various cuisines to have a menu this large and with such high quality.
I cannot wait to return with a larger appetite to try the Bún Bò Huế , Bò Kho, Japanese Beef Curry, Chicken Rice Clay Pot and much more.
Save me a seat at Remton Vietnamese Cuisine. I will be...
Read moreWe are from out of town and we’re staying in the Webster area. We’d heard that Houston has some of the best Vietnamese food in the country but didn’t want to travel back north to the city. We checked google reviews and decided to go to Remton in a strip mall. We had one of the finest dining experiences in quite a while. We walked in and the decor simple modern and spotless. My wife had a drink called a madame butterfly that she loved. The wait staff was pleasant and helpful with our dining decisions. We ordered a Street food rice cake (Bot Chien), it is made with eggs, stir fry radish topped with pickled carrots , daikon, green onions and cilantro. The combination made it a delight to eat. And was served with homemade sweet and sour soy sauce. Next we shared Goi Cuon, two spring rolls with shrimp. The shrimp was excellent and it was obvious they had not made it in advance as it was room temperature. It was served with their homemade peanut sauce and fish sauce also homemade. Next we had tropical mango shrimp. Served with mango and a mango sauce. The shrimp was lightly fried in rice flour. The six large shrimp were cooked perfectly and the mango sauce was light and not too sweet. Another winner. Finally we had our favorite dish of the night, Flaming Steak and sausage. It comes with homemade Vietnamese sausage, filet mignon cubes and two eggs all cooked in a sizzling pan. Served with French bread, a side salad of Romaine lettuce with a light homemade dressing. It is also served with the chef’s goose pate and Mayo. For those of you who didn’t know the French had conquered Vietnam. The Vietnamese kicked them out in the 1950s but kept the French cuisine and synthesized it with their own. And throughout this meal one felt the French influence in almost every dish, but never more so then in the pate. You are supposed to slather pate and Mayo on your bread, top it with steak and dip it into the perfectly cooked (gooey) fried egg. It was wonderful and messy and rich. Then you eat some of the salad to defray the richness. We loved the pate so much that they brought us out a second helping. After all this we had the Creme Brûlée. It’s sugary top cracked perfectly! Again the bill came and we were shocked at how affordable this sumptuous feast was. It was a true fusion meal combining the best of Vietnam and France. Special thanks to Quan and the service we received. First time I have eaten Pate in Shorts...
Read moreI came here on a friend’s recommendation.
My dining partner (DP) and I started with shrimp spring rolls.
DP ordered chicken pho as is their usual preference, and I ordered beef pho with meatballs out of curiosity.
I am a big fan of beef pho and have had many bowls of it. I have also ordered a variety of meats with the bowl.
To begin with, the spring rolls were about $6 and were ok. The peanut sauce was flavorful but runny. They served sriracha, hoisin, and chili oil at the time of the spring rolls. Making a mix of the sauces (peanut/sriracha and sriracha/hoisin) made the spring rolls taste better.
The bowls of pho were about $14 each. In my opinion this is pricy for a bowl. There was no option to choose a size - it was one size only.
DP has had many bowls of pho before this one and DP was not impressed. DP rated this a “5 or 6” on a scale of 10. The broth tasted bland and you can see the color against the background of the rice noodles. The chicken was lacking flavor in DP’s opinion and DP wished they had ordered the “roasted chicken” (I don’t actually remember the name of the other option) so that it would have more flavor. For reference, DP only squeezes lime into their bowl.
My bowl of beef pho arrived and was disappointing from first sight. There was no pungent aroma and my nostrils were not awakened. The taste was ok and I would rate it about the middle of all the beef pho I have had.
DP and I were served one small plate of bean sprouts/lime/basil/jalapeño. Neither DP nor I eat basil or jalapeño. I ate the bean sprouts in my soup, which did not soften because the soup was not hot enough to do so.
Overall I rated this meal 3 stars out of 5 because the service was good.
We ate gratefully, but I really do wish we had gotten more for the...
