We came in at 5:00 on the dot. First table in. We sat at the bar where it was hard to get our server to pay attention to us whatsoever. It felt like we were annoying her with our presence from the get go, which made it a bit uncomfortable. We ordered wine, a caviar dip and lobster rolls. The lobster rolls came out first, which we thought was strange. But we couldn’t get our server’s attention to ask about the dip, so we just ate. When we finished it, we had to flag our server down to ask if the dip was still coming. She admitted she forgot to put it in, which we said was fine. Not a big deal, but disappointing. It was difficult to get refills of our drinks or anything we needed and we had to work hard the entire time to get anyone’s attention to get more water, etc. When we were finally able to make contact with her to order dessert, we ordered the chocolate chip cookie that was supposed to come with soft serve. For $12 we expected it to be pretty substantial, but it came out without the advertised soft serve. We weren’t able to get her attention to ask about it before we finished it. When we asked, she told us that the machine was broken (this felt like something that should have been disclosed when we ordered it), so she brought us a bowl of gelato. It didn’t really do the same as we hadn’t been able to enjoy it in conjunction with the cookie. Ultimately we were pretty disappointed, although the food was pretty good it was really hard to get around how bad our service experience was. As a former server I’m sympathetic to the fact that people get busy and mistakes happen, but this was on a level that was even tough for me to get over. Given how early we were, this has to be a staffing issue. We hope that it can be corrected in time but ultimately would not want to come back to pay $120 for 2 okay lobster for rolls and an...
Read moreI got there and it took 15 mins to even know who the server was, who once I met her, was lovely. I ordered 3 shrimp cocktail, the chowder, and the hot butter lobster roll. The shrimp smelled fishy (how does that happen??) and was too big which made the shrimp tough to eat. Had to lather it in lemon and cocktail sauce to eat it. I was scared to say anything because WEHO restaurants are notorious for throwing up their hands and saying ‘Oh well!’ and still charging for the items. And at $8 per shrimp I wasn’t going to pay for something I didn’t eat. Then I got my NE clam chowder. It came with a fried clam on top but when I bit into it, it was completely flavorless. Not even salty. Just breaded mush. Then I took a sip of the chowder and it was smoky and slimy. I am from Boston and know chowder can have bacon or sherry flavors but this did not add, it detracted from an already disappointing chowder. Finally, I got my lobster roll. I was really hoping this would save the day. It disappointed me as well. I think the lobster was previously frozen because the texture was chewy and tough. Also it was lathered in butter, which is customary, and normally, great with lobster. This tasted like movie theater popcorn butter, artificial and overpowering. It felt like they were covering up the bad flavor of the lobster. I was graciously comped the price of the lobster roll but ended up pay $94 for an entire meal I didn’t like. This seems like a touristy influencer trap and there is so much good food in LA that I would not recommend anyone spend hard earned money here. I really wanted to like it. I have very rarely, ever not liked an entire meal so this was shocking. I love supporting Boston based, and women owned restaurants but I will not be...
Read moreA really impressive and delicious dinner. I have known about SG for many months and was able to try it for my first time last night and walked away with a great experience. It’s in a lively and fun part of LA, right on the corner a block on Sunset. We had a late dinner so when we walked up we were bathed in the pink neon light out front and the inside itself is designed really well, love the fish water jugs and all the small detail pieces that really add to the overall vibe. Parking is really easy, they have a large free parking lot directly behind the restaurant. Our server also did a great job and was very attentive.
We started off with Oysters, which I recommend to anyone as a great start to any meal. Next came Heirloom Tomato Salad, which was really good, I especially liked the fried artichokes. I followed that with Lobster Bisque, which was a special for the night. It had tons of lobster in it and was honestly really great. One of the better ones I’ve had in a long time. Next came the Steak Tartare which was my favorite dish of the night. The reggiano and buttered brioche were heavenly with the tartare. I was sad when we finished it because it was so good. For our mains we chose the Warm Lobster Roll and the Mussels & Fries. The lobster roll is a bit expensive at $42 but is filled with a lot of meat and also was one of the better ones that we have had in a long time. Prob tied for my favorite in LA, the other being Broad Street. The mussels were also fantastic, the broth really made it a special dish.
Overall a fantastic meal and we both had a wonderful dinner and already are looking forward to coming back again in the near future. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great...
