Real authentic sit-down Mexican restaurants are just far and few between anywhere. Unfortunately this one isn't one either. Very similar to pretty much any others around. Smothered Burrito will get a 3.1. The food is all very basic, nothing standing out, and pretty bland. I do have a hard time seeing sirloin steaks, and hamburgers, and tailoring to non-mexican dishes on the menu. And the presentation is just kind of thrown together. The tostadas to start are soggy, way too many beans and not enough chorizo which soggs la tostada. The chorizo is pretty underwhelming. The tacos are hardshell and the waiter was pretty put off and overstated that it would cost extra for the soft tortillas. We did it anyways and the carne asada was pretty much completely dry and almost no seasoning. Pico de gallo that comes with It is pretty good. Enchiladas had a LOT of cheese, very overwhelming. Horchata is not good and just cinnamon water. The only redeeming quality of Smothered Burrito is the Smothered Burrito. Their chile verde is good. Has good flavor and a really good spice level actually. Slow simmered and good seasonings and spices. "Carnitas" are more basic pork chunks, but pair really well inside with the chile verde. Flour tortillas very nice Definitely stick to this item if you go. It's their one staple. Service was rough, felt really rushed and pressured with not that many people dining. Waiter very put out by us asking for the fresh "chunky" salsa instead of the bottled one. Not the most inviting. But the restaurant itself was clean and nice atmosphere. I used to go to Smothered Burrito before they changed their name and business from La Luna. Unfortunately just nothing has changed so I don't know how much different it will go this time around. Smaller menu, more authenticity, nicer service, and good horchata goes a long way!

To say I wish I could give 0 stars if I could would be a complete understatement. The fact that this place has any good reviews is concerning. A review 3 weeks before mine mentioned the salsa for the chips was really salty. When we got it, my fiancé and I both agreed it tasted like tomato paste of of the can with some water added to it to thin it out a bit. It was disgusting. I got a taco salad. There was almost no meat in it and the shell it was in was stale and had a really weird aftertaste. My boyfriend got a steak fajita quesadilla and it was more peppers than steak. The steak was super chewy because of how many tendons were in each piece. We got two margaritas and I know it’s an Utah thing, but it’s still annoying, but we got syrup and water. We paid extra for one shot each for us to put in our drinks for it to taste like a margarita. It was also very concerning how quickly our food was brought in. We ordered and not even a full 7 minutes later, we had the food and it wasn’t super hot, right off the grill. All around, to claim this is “authentic Mexican food” is a slap in the face to people that pour their love into their food or care about providing at least acceptable food. $60 definitely not worth it. We didn’t finish any of food. My fiancé asked for a box to go with his quesadilla to not cause a scene because he felt bad. We ended up going down the street to chilis. Utah needs to higher their standards because eating out anywhere here is ridiculous.

With great pleasure, I write these lines. I moved to Utah in the 80s. As a working class young man, my budget was limited and one of the highlights of payday a Chile Verde Smothered Burrito. In those days the very few Mexican restaurants served a pretty standard fare. Food costs have risen and food prices have doubled and doubled again and again. Restaurants have increased prices and reduced portions and quality. I thought. Smothered Burrito is a family business, a business where a family works in it. I talked to the owner and he mentioned that patrons enjoyed and preferred the Chile Verde Smothered Burrito. I had only tried their Mexican Steak that was superb and affordable. I ordered a Chile Verde Smothered Burrito and it was generous, delicious and well made. Drowned in ingredients that were used as food rather than ornamental (when food is used for decoration). Note: Although called chile verde it is not a spicy hot dish, if you like spicy hot: ask for hot sauce. Chunks flavorful pork, yellow cheese, beans, rice and the chile verde sauce made with jalapeños they roasted themselves. For a few cents more than the cost of a hamburger, a working man can have a great meal. And if you want to travel memory lane when an old fashion great meal is required: This is the Place. My favorite of course: The Chile Verde Smothered Burrito. Thank you for reading this.

Hey board of health!

This restaurant is very filthy and I believe the kitchen is the same situation as the bathroom.

The Men's bathroom was beyond Truck stop filthy. Have you ever been to a bathroom that was so gross it made you gag?

The toilet was clogged with feces and non operational, the urinal stunk so bad it made me gag.

The floors haven't been cleaned in weeks along with the sink and no paper towels.

If I visited the bathroom before I ordered my meal I would have just got up and left.

Can you imagine what the kitchen is like? A general rule of thumb is if their bathrooms are clean, then it's safe to eat there.

This is my second time dining. The food is good, not excellent.

In my first experience, I ordered a single Burrito, and my bill was about $4.00 dollars more than what was posted on the menu.

I didn't think much of it because I was new to the place and with my co workers.

Now, tonight, I ordered 2 burritos with rice & beans for $13.50, and they charged me $15.99.

I told the waiter this was incorrect, and they yelled at me and said that's what I ordered.

I grabbed the menu and pointed out what I ordered and I was insulted when she said I should have charged you an extra 50 cents.

Didn't offer a correction or even treated me as a valued customer.

It's not like I want something for nothing, however its the principle of getting taken advantage of.

They barely speak English, and they are extremely rude.

I SHALL NEVER RETURN ! Do you self a favor and go...
