Masa…what can I say? – This is a solid Sushi place. York can be a difficult place for food diversity – but that is changing.
First off, this is York Pa – not New York – or Philadelphia. The food offered here is good for York – not what you would come to expect in a major metropolitan area.
The menu is large – too large, it is cumbersome and hard to understand, menu items are all over the place. If you are fussy or uncertain of items, it may take a visit or two before you can grasp everything on the menu – it might be helpful to look it over in advance, you can find it on their Facebook page.
There is a bar – they make decent drinks, not awesome drinks – but decent cocktails. They have a decent selection of Sake as well - bottled beer only. I am hard pressed to think of nary a single sushi bar in the entire Harrisburg metro area that serves alcohol; York has 2 within a mile of each other – go figure.
Masa has a huge assortment of cooked and raw rolls and sushi of every shape and form. They have teriyaki, hibachi, soba, ramen – udon, bento and more!
Me – I typically enjoy sushi nigari…and preferably sashimi. Just the fish. The quality here seems very good – the fish portions are very large…very large, I can barely fit one piece of sashimi in my mouth they are so huge – the sushi nigari is equally as large!
I take my girlfriend and her kids here and they are really new to the experience – they seem to like it, we keep coming back.
You will find rolls with a lot of asparagus, cucumber, mango, avocado with lots of other interesting ingredients – mostly the sushi rolls here are Americanized though.
Personally, I would like to see something more spicy with new and special rolls and creations that they innovate and change periodically – but that’s just me.

Today visiting Masa Bistro, in particular this day, I planned to visit and eat like I have any other time, but today was different, which genuinely surprised me; bringing a huge smile to my face. The atmosphere is always so calm, dim and relaxing. The food is extravagant, fair with the pricing as well especially for the quality, which is always above and beyond. I came and ordered the same as I usually do trying a new soup and salad every time. Three choices of sushi from the new creation menu, and a spicy veggie soup today. The service is great and the waitresses are the best. As I finished up and waited for my bill to come, I pull out my wallet and prepare for the fee, as expected, a easy fee for their three choice special. I pull out cash and my card, give her a 20 and ask her to split it, 10 for me 10 for her, and the rest paid by card. A moment later she returns with the pen in hand and the receipt, and after I sighn she asks me to wait just one minute for her, I oblige. To my favorable surprise she returns with my favorite dessert, strawberry mochi. I thought to myself, did I order that as well? And look at my bill, it was only the soup soda and sushi charged, so why did I get the dessert? None other then genuine kindness, that's why, this is why I come here, not because you get free food, but because the service, quality, and kindness this restaurant incorporates is what keeps coming back and eating here... Thank you to the owner as well, because I'm surely certain that such kind hearted people are difficult to come by, and...
Read moreWent here for a dinner date for Valentine's Day. Understandably, they were busy and we wouldn't have minded waiting to be seated if that meant better service. However, to our surprise we were seated right away. Good right? Well wrong, seating us was the worst mistake they could have made. They obviously are not equipped to handle a busy night AT ALL. Sure we got our drinks within 10 minutes, but we waited about an extra 45 minutes just to ORDER. And our original waitress didn't even take our order, it was the manager. Probably the worst one I've ever met ever. She would take our order before continuing to seat people over and over again. We sat and waited almost 30 minutes for our appetizer, which was cold. And an extra HOUR for our main dish. Meanwhile, we were getting ignored and others who came in after us were getting served. After being seated almost TWO HOURS, I had to get the manager's attention on my own. I demanded to get my food togo. This "manager" still tried to serve our food to us for dine-in. I had to restate I wanted it TO GO and they obviously just threw the stuff in a box with no care. Definitely not coming back for a while. Use to love this place but not anymore. They need to get it together. That was the worst thing I've ever experienced from any restaurant. Avoid this place all together. They only care about money, not their customers. Disappointing and...
