We've been really trying to like this place. Hoping that they would fill a niche south of the tracks in Wheaton. (North of the tracks you've got Mi Casa and Burrito Parilla and those both have very good food and service)
First time, I had a selection of tacos (I had to order Ala Carte because you can't mix and match with the three taco plate, grrr) they were ok, a little under stuffed but the steak and the Al Pastor were serviceable. Like every other taco place that I have ever been, they asked me if I wanted cilantro & onion, or with tomato, lettuce and cheese.. it's cilantro and onion for me everytime.
We've been back for enchiladas and burrito's and they were both pretty good.
Today we had a taste for taco's and thought we'd give them another try. I ordered 2 Al Pastor and 2 Steak Tacos, my wife ordered the Pastor Taco Plate. As we were waiting for our food, it dawned on me that we weren't asked how we wanted the tacos. So I ran up to the counter and asked the young man that took our order what kind of tacos we were getting.. he said tomato cheese and lettuce.. Ugh! I asked if he could change it, he said no. Then they came out, I asked if he could fix this, he said no but I was free to order more. I said, "You should have asked me what kind of tacos I wanted" he said, "you should have read it".
Mea culpa, he's right. I should have read it, buyer beware and all that. I was in a hurry because there were people behind us. Anyway, we're done trying.. there are two places with better food and service on the same street.
What really bothers me is that I succumbed to that leave a tip as part of the checkout process standing at the counter. In the best of times standing there taking my order and my money is not a tipping situation. In this case... he was not helpful, he was rude and he was pre-tipped.
I learned all kinds of...
Read moreTried this place out for the first time recently. Ordered a couple of Al Pastor tacos and a Carne Asada burrito to go. Took a seat off to the side while I waited for my order to be cooked. The interior of Javi's, although compact, is very clean and tidy. They have a quaint dining area with several places to sit and eat. After a short wait, I received my food and headed home.
The burrito was great. They used good quality, well-trimmed, and seasoned grilled steak with no gristle or chewy bits. It was also loaded to the gills with cheese, beans, lettuce, sour cream, and tomato. It was a hot, delicious, greasy mess that left me all sweaty and desiring a nap afterward. It was a very drippy and somewhat sloppy burrito, so you should have plenty of napkins and wet wipes on hand. It's probably not an ideal car ride snack or meal.
The Al Pastor tacos were also fantastic. Savory and succulent well-marinated, then grilled pork with fresh and aromatic white onions and cilantro cradled within perfectly dense yet pillowy corn tortillas. Very good tacos. And their salsas were excellent. The red, in particular, packs a very subtle, smokey, and spicy punch.
Overall, I was very satisfied with my first experience. The portions were filling and delicious, the prices seemed fair, and their service is quick and efficient. I'll definitely be returning to try out their other menu items. Come on over and check them out. Cheers,...
Read moreOk i’m gonna be totally honest here. I am very skeptical about taco places because they overcharge for small tacos and they don’t give you enough food for what you pay for but this place they know how to season their meat, tacos and burritos I have tried and they are excellent. I want to try the torta next it is a little pricey, but if you get good food, I will pay good money and this please, I will pay. A little bit more for the good tacos and burritos I give them a A+ plus I’m actually on my way back now to go get tacos and burritos. I would ask for this I would hope they would have lunch specials at a decent price, so I’ll let you know I just gave...
