This place has been one of my friend’s (he is local) favorite restaurant, so he brought me here to try Bún bò nam bộ for the first time. I was surprised to see that the dish wasn’t soupy but more like a dry noodle type. It is quite similar to Bún Thịt Nướng that I had in the states, but here they added nước mắm already for you. I didn’t really have to add anything extra since the flavor was just right. I also loved the appetizer/snack chả lụa dipping with tương ớt (Vietnamese hot chili paste/ketchup). Yum! The restaurant functions quite similar to a lot of Vietnamese restaurants I’ve been to, where you just walk inside and pick any of the open table yourself. Then, you call one of the server to come over out loud to order. So I guess the service was fine since the guys weren’t rude to me or anything. Overall, I think this is a very easy to eat dish that both Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese can also enjoy :)

If you want to try the typical beef noodle salad, this place got you covered. There's nothing much to do once you get a spot here, besides the Bun Bo there's only a couple of starters you can add to your order if you wish, and in a matter of seconds you're served with your bowl. Honestly, it was delicious, I enjoyed the food a lot. I would just point out that the tables are not cleaned/wiped when customers sit down or leave (but seems like it's pretty much like this in most traditional places in Vietnam), and there's a large trash bin just below every single table that, besides being a convenient option to quickly dispose of any used tissues, makes it feel a bit gross, as you'll be eating just a few inches away from someone else's trash. Anyhow, if you're travelling with an open mind and don't care about these details, I would still recommend this place for a quick bite.

thursday 4:30pm - no wait - dine in - cash we were craving a cold lunch and decided to have bún bò. we were seated inside. a man came and took our order - there is basically one thing on the main dish menu. he came around 10 minutes later with a platter of the bowls for everyone and distributed them. // bún bò (70k) // portion was good. a load of rice noodles and beef on a bed of lettuce with carrots/vegetables, peanuts, fried onions, and green papaya (?) on the top. i liked the different ingredients and felt it was flavorful. the sauce was at the bottom so i recommend mixing everything together. the only downside was that it tasted a little watered down. overall, i enjoyed the dish and would recommend it to people for a "healthier" feeling meal.

Ate here twice well in Hanoi. Pass by it on the street and later that day went in to sit down. In general, restaurants that serve one or two specialized items or excellent in my experience. This was no exception. The beef salad was delicious. The broth and the various ingredients it came with were so flavorful. The beef was succulent and tender. The service was quick, and staff was patient enough with our pointing and gesturing. They understood without issue. It is a busy place and keeping it clean and organized is an ongoing demand. It is true that there are many tourists eating at this establishment, but that doesn’t make it any less authentic or expensive.

A place famous for its food but mainly catering to beef and pork lovers. The place serves Bun Bo Nam Bo, which is noodles served over fresh vegetables and served with meat, mainly beef. It's a hole in the wall restaurant but seems to be super famous. The only chicken options was the herbal chicken stew, which I had to order as my friend was tucking into the beef noodles. She enjoyed the beef noodles but the chicken stew was a bit too bitter. There was a strong flavour of ginseng making it feel like a medicine. I couldn't finish my chicken stew but the fresh watermelon juice helped a bit. Costing 205,000 VND or 10 sgd for two people which seems a steal.

Bun Bo Nam Bo is one of these Vietnamese dishes that is particularly suited to Western sensibilities without needing to be altered or toned down. It's a typical Hanoi dish with very subtle flavours (Vietnamese from further south might just call it bland ;) and it's rarely found elsewhere in the country outside of tourist restaurants. Having said that, I do like this beef noodle salad a lot personally, and this place does a very good job with a generous amount of marinated meat and a nicely balanced sauce. It's 65k for a big bowl which is reasonable for a quality beef dish. Packed every day even in corona times, so it's definitely a local favourite.
