I used to eat here as a kid but the service and atmosphere are increasingly decadent. The entrance looks greasy and dirty, while the floor inside is just slightly less greasy. The lady who’s in charge pushed us to get a bowl of frying dough sticks. We were ok as it’s just 5k. But then out of nowhere, the lousy lady was walking with a stick approaching us while we were eating, touch the frying dough sticks with her hand (!!!), shouting at her staff and blaming them for mishandling the portion (should be 2 pieces instead of 3). She didn’t ask us to pay extra, but it was extremely uncomfortable. Then there was a small cockroach dancing on the table while we were eating. I’m not sure about that — I think I’ve had chicken pho with a little more satisfying zing and depth of flavor back home. I’d say this a really homey, clean + clear tasting, healthy broth with some breast cuts of chicken. Lots of grandmas in pajamas running this joint which I love :) makes it feel like a grandmas home cooking experience. Which I think is what the locals keep coming back for. The banh quay at 2pm on a Tuesday was also a lil stale but not bad! Tra Da was typical and refreshing. The younger ladies tending the broth were very nice, accommodating and understood my broken ordering in viet english lol. Worth coming...
