A Complete Disappointment – Not Worth Your Time or Money
I took my family to this restaurant with high hopes, but it turned out to be a total letdown. We arrived at 7:30 PM, and the place was completely empty – which in hindsight should have been our first red flag.
The menu sounded promising, but I was surprised to see more meat options than seafood, which was unexpected given the restaurant’s location and theme. Another warning sign. And let's talk about the prices – completely sky-high! I mean, sure, you're paying for air conditioning, but 50,000 VND for a bottle of Larue beer? Really?
Then came the food. I ordered the pork and shrimp cha gio (spring rolls) to compare with my own. What a disappointment – two single rolls on a plate for 90,000 VND. Yes, you read that right! I also ordered a pork and rice main dish, and that was the real disaster. The pork chop was dry and flavorless, the rice was cold, and the portion of morning glory was soggy and lukewarm at best. All of this for 320,000 VND.
To be clear, I don't mind spending money on good food. But for the price, I expect quality – food that is prepared and served properly. Especially when the restaurant is run by Chef Duc, who claims to be "in control." Well, I can tell you right now, Chef Duc is not in control.
Bottom line: this place is nothing more than a tourist trap. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Mai Fish Restaurant in Hoi An is an absolute must-visit! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the warm and inviting atmosphere, but the real star of the show is the incredible owner and chef, Duc.
Duc’s passion for authentic Vietnamese cuisine is evident in every dish he serves, especially his pho—without a doubt the best I've had in Vietnam! The broth is rich and flavorful, made with all-natural ingredients and no MSG, which really allows the fresh flavors to shine. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the herbs added that authentic touch that truly elevates the dish.
Duc takes great pride in using high-quality, natural ingredients, and it shows. He’s always eager to share stories about his cooking philosophy and the importance of freshness in his dishes. His enthusiasm and dedication to his craft make every visit feel special.
The ambiance is cozy and charming, creating the perfect backdrop for a delicious meal. If you're in Hoi An, don’t miss the chance to dine at Mai Fish Restaurant! I can’t wait to come back for more of Duc's fantastic pho and delightful hospitality. Thank you for an amazing...
Read moreThis place didn’t quite live up to expectations considering the price. The half price happy hour cocktails were good, starters of wonton and Banh Mi delicious but what I was really excited about was the duck leg curry because it has 2 ingredients I love; duck and sweet potato. The flavours were great, as was the presentation but it was normal potato in the curry, not sweet potato and when I pointed this out, there was a great deal of confusion and discussing. The manager suggested we return the next day for a free dessert but we can’t afford to come twice in one week. I normally wouldn’t make a fuss but considering they charge £11 for the dish, I was expecting perfection and I really don’t rate a restaurant that can’t tell the difference between normal potato and sweet potato. Sorry Mai Fish but I won’t be back, even if you do offer us a free dessert.
The service was a bit amateur and confused too. We arrived an hour in advance to enjoy the cocktails and when we asked to be shown to our table they told us there would be a bit of a wait. The restaurant was empty! Bizarre. We’d booked the table 5...
