It was very disappointing. This is definitely for foreigners and is a poor representative of Vietnamese cuisine. I had my suspicion when I was the only Vietnamese in the place but I was looking to enjoy Banh Xeo which I enjoy in every town from Saigon to Hanoi. I said as much to the young lady at the door. She assured me that they make that dish and it's often ordered. I asked how many cakes are in an order. Normally they are 7k each or 35k an order of 3-5 cakes depending on size of each cake. When I saw the price 85k and she told me it was one very large cake enough for two. I get it that this is Hoi An, so as long as it's delicious I don't mind. However, the cake was just normal size and just underwhelming in taste. There was no aspect of this dish that was good. Even the rice paper that was given to wrap the banh xeo was thick and falls apart easily. The dipping sauce was not well balanced. The greens was lacking common herbs. The cake itself was not well made: lack the wonderful coconut milk fragrance, thick vs crispy, meat cut too thick, shrimp cut into little pieces and very few, bean sprouts not fresh and sparsely filled the cake. One star given for drinks, fresh but at the stalls I pay 20k for a larger portion that's just as fresh. Still at least they were...
Read moreI know the service and the kitchen team had tried their best, but we ordered a chicken rice, a char shiu pork, a stir fried vegetable and all of them taste just average to be honest.....
The only thing that was not so average, is the waiting time for the dishes to arrive, it took more than 45minutes from when we placed our order.......so if you are in a rush or looking for something that treats your taste buds, I think you better go somewhere else.
In fact, the local street stall next to it that sells the same chicken rice at just half the price would taste similar but serve much faster! We know because we were really starving while waiting and at last we couldn't hold to grab one from there to eat first.
As for why this restaurant can score a 4.7 out of 5 is still a myth to us, we see quite some of the reviews that give 5 stars actually leave a poor comment in other languages.....we guess that may be due to some type of treats that the shop previously gave away to jack up the score.....
At the night of dining, there was a musical performance by the locals on the street that heat up the atmosphere pleasantly~
In a summary, If you are happy to wait 45 minutes to have some average quality meals, you...
