I am writing this after testing all best banh mi places in Hoi An (I am banh mi fanatic)
this was really the best vegan banh mi I had in Vietnam the bread is super fresh the choice is super simple, you get one type with all of ingredients conveniently listed in English, you can choose to have no chilli but I recommend to get at least a bit of it as it makes the taste more balanced the reason why this was the best among all vegan banh mi I had is the interesting balance of taste and unbeatable price it’s not a super stuffed banh mi so you might not be full after one, just get two (2 banh mi here will cost you as much as 1 banh mi elsewhere) there is a better vegetarian option in Banh Mi Phuong around the corner but you will wait in longer queue, and there is no vegan option there the lady is super kind and you are supporting a true local vegan street vendor, you don’t have a lot of those in Vietnam!
Pro tips: try this banh mi and then go to Banh Mi Phuong for vegetarian option if you are not vegan but only vegetarian (Phuong has amazing vegetarian banh mi and is really full) if you are a hungry vegetarian, not vegan, your other two best options is Madam (stuffed banh mi with best tofu) or Phuong (stuffed banh mi with best balance of ingredients) still, try this vegan Le Hoi Banh mi - it’s super cheap, delicious and you...
Read moreThe banh mi here is fantastic and for only 15k!!! The bread is fresh and it comes with tofu, mushrooms, veggies, and herbs. We loved it so much, we ended up getting another one.
When you find this stall, you’ll likely be served by Hoi herself. With our broken Vietnamese, we asked her why she charges so little because other places charge 25 to 30k for their vegetarian sandwiches. Hoi said that she wants to keep it affordable and accessible because she’s a Buddhist who simply wants to share her vegan food with people who are willing to try. 😭 Her only ask was to post on happy cow only if we really liked her food. So here I am joining Happy Cow with my first posting! 😊
If you are not vegan, you won’t miss meat with how much flavor she packs into her sandwiches, so non vegans - give her a try!
Lastly, she has a special needs son who would be thrilled if you came by...
Read moreI’m so happy that I found this place!! I saw the 4.9 rating and went straight there thinking it was a standard restaurant, only to find a tiny little stand with a sweet and humble lady. The menu is a bit confusing, listing a bunch of ingredients you can chose and 15k written next to them. We thought that was the price for each ingredient, turns out it was the price for the whole Bahn Mi!!! We ordered two and were shocked when she said it was only 30k. Incredible service and value for money, this lady needs to become as famous as the Anthony Bourdain Bahn Mi place right around the corner! Please do yourself and favour and pay her a visit, you won’t be disappointed.
Tip: if you can’t chose, just type “make your favourite combination” into your translate app, and watch her...
